If this pushes back the dates of the World Championships which is the first qualifier for the Olympics, then USA Boxing might change its dates for the Olympic trials.
2007 World Championships - Moscow???
AIBA withdraw Moscow as 2007 World Championships hosts
March 12, 2007
The International Boxing Association has been forced to withdraw Moscow as the venue of the 2007 World Senior Boxing Championships following the Russian Boxing Federation’s failure to comply with the conditions of the agreement signed by both parties at the Executive Committee meeting held in Taipei on February 9, 2007.
The AIBA Executive Committee elected Moscow ahead of the Korean City of Jeju as the host of AIBA’s most prestigious event through a secret ballot following presentations from both cities at the Executive Committee meeting. However, the RBF failed on a number of issues pertaining to the agreement despite continuous assistance from AIBA through the extension of deadlines on a number of occasions.
“It is regrettable that we were put into a situation where we had to make such a decision but we also had to honour the conditions of the agreement,” AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu said. “We made every effort to accompany the RBF’s dream of hosting the 2007 World Senior Boxing Championships, however, this decision was only made after receiving the full agreement of the absolute majority of EC members, including the Vice-Presidents.”
Now, based on the agreement signed in Taipei between the AIBA and RBF, the AIBA has the right to move the Championships to other countries.
