In the main event local hero Mario "El Principe Ponceno" Santiago (18-0, 13 ko's) defended his WBC CABOFE Featherweight title against rugged veteran and former contender Daniel "The Prophet" Attah (24-4-1, 8 ko's) by a ninth round TKO when the corner decided to throw in the towel, Attah seemed to be tired and also had a large lump on his right eye caused by Santiago constant attack. Another factor the fight might have been stopped was due to the controversial open scoring system, at the moment of the stoppage Attah was way down on the scorecards. From the first round Santiago controlled the bout with his jab, a solid straight left and effective body work. In the third round Mario hurt Attah and quickly unloaded at him in the corner but Attah recovered well and came back towards the end of the round. The forth round was a back and forth seesaw war with Mario winning almost all of the exchanges. In the sixth a left to the body hurt Attah but the tough of nails Attah once again came back and gave a brave effort, later in the round Attah was deducted a point for head butting. The seventh was Attah's best round as his left found home threw Santiago's tiring defense. In the eight a relentless Santiago kept his hard work to the body tiring Attah down the stretch and in the ninth Santiago jumped on Attah unloading at will as Attah was covering up when the end came.
After the fight a jubilant Gary Shaw said of his fighter "I'm very proud of Mario, is the first time I've come to Puerto Rico, Mario will be in a title fight before the end of the year". A comment that was greeted by the present crowd, Shaw also commented on the open scoring system "Personally I don't like open scoring it takes a lot from the fight it might have been also what caused the fight to be stopped".
It only took Orlando "El Fenomeno" Cruz (11-0, 6 ko's) one round to squash "La Arana" (The Spider) Francisco Huertas and defend his WBA Fedecaribe featherweight title. Cruz boxed beautifully around Huertas utilizing his hand speed and footwork and as Cruz was pressing an overhand left sent Huertas down, a visibly hurt Huertas beat the count and was sent back down by a left right combination, once again Huertas tried to beat the count but the referee waved the off the fight as Huertas was stumbling across the ring barely trying to stay on his feet, the bout ended at the 2:21 mark of the first round. The son of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico Victor "Vitino" Fonseca put on an excellent display of speed and power as he stopped veteran Jose Laureano. Fonseca utilized his one two combination and a sharp uppercut to the midsection to keep Laureano at bay. The end came when a left uppercut to the chin stunned Laureano who quikly tried to hold but went down in the process; Laureano beat the count only to be bombarded once again the referee jump in and halted the bout at the 2:59 mark of the first round.
William "Chino " Correa brutally stopped Angel "La Roca" Villegas at the 2:59 mark of the first round. The pride of el barrio Indio in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico quickly jumped right on top of his opponent unleashing heavy shots, Villegas put a valiant effort in trying to fight back but Correa was simply too strong, the end came when a right, left, right combination put Villegas out on his feet and the referee stepped in to save him from further punishment.
Puerto Rican amateur star Cesar Seda Jr. dismantled amateur boxing rival Wilmer Suarez at the 1:21 mark of the third round when the referee stopped the bout. Seda tamed the wild swinging Suarez with a sharp jab and fast combinations. A straight left followed by a barrage of punches sent Suarez down and as the referee was counting a wobbly Suarez seemed to be in no condition to continue.
Local favorite Javier Perez overcame a first round knockdown and being badly hurt in the second round to outbox Celestino Rodríguez down the stretch of the fight. After being hurt Perez worked the body tiring the hard punching Rodríguez and winning a unanimous decision by the scores of 57-56 on all of the scorecards.
Fernando Torres scored a spectacular stoppage over Jonathan Gonzalez. Torres fighting out of Coamo, Puerto Rico peppered Gonzalez threw out the ring and ended matters with a thunderous right hand that sent Gonzalez down and almost out. Gonzalez barely beat the count and Torres jump right back at him prompting the referee to stop the bout at the 2:22 mark of the first round.
In other bouts
Carlos Pena defeated local fighter Steven Garcia via unanimous decision by the scores of 40-35 on all of the judge's scorecards.
In an all out slugfest Angel "Chico" Torres won a split decision over Elie Torres by the scores of 39-36 on two of the judges scorecards while the other saw it 39-36 in favor of Elie Torres.
Edgar Perez pounded out a tired Alberto Rosado and stopped him at the 2:36 mark of the third round.
