BOXING-LEAD T&T’s Salandy retains multiple titles
SAN FERNANDO, Trinidad, Mar 25, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s Jizelle Salandy used a classy performance to overcome American challenger Yvonne Reis and retain her world light middleweight titles on Saturday night at Skinner Park.
The 20-year-old Salandy out-boxed the taller Reis and carved out a clear win on all the judges’ cards to retain her plethora of world and international 154-pound titles -- World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), IWBF, IFBA, NABC, WBE, and IWBA.
In another international title fight on the card, Trinidad and Tobago’s Kevin Placide scored a sensational 11th round knockout of Barbadian Christopher Henry to capture the World Boxing Empire (WBE) welterweight title.
Giving away height and reach advantage to the 5-foot-10-inch Reis, Salandy was tactically strong and secured a good win in front of nearly 2,000 fans – the best attendance at boxing in the country for a long time -- that included the Prime Minister Patrick Manning.
She scored well with punches to the body and frequent left hooks and was never in danger of defeat.
Showing skilful footwork, the 5-foot-7-inch Salandy was always in a good position to punch and to evade punches and overwhelmingly got the judges’ verdict 98-91, 98-92, 99-92 in the entertaining 10-rounder.
There were no knockdowns in the fight.
“It was a good fight and I had to pull out all the stops, she was better than I thought she would be,” Salandy said after the fight.
Reis, twice Salandy’s age at 40 but fit and athletic, accepted the loss well and conceded Salandy gave much more than she had bargained for.
“It’s not an excuse but I think I underrated her and I paid for it,” Reis told reporters after the fight.
With the victory, Salandy improved her ring record to 14-0 with six knockouts and Reis slipped to six wins against 11 losses and one draw.
In a tense men’s bout for the WBE belt, Placide caught Henry with a solid right hand that knocked out the Barbadian former International Boxing Union (IBU) champion and left him limp on the canvas, needing a few minutes to be revived.
The bout was competitive and heading for a tight finish until Placide’s decisive blow.
In three non-title bouts on the card, world-rated super-bantamweight Leon Moore needed just two rounds to get past Paul Lewis in an all-Guyanese showdown, and promising Barbadian teenager Miguel Antoine stopped local welterweight Waldron Brooks in five rounds.

Samuel,
I'm very confused about Leon's results at the moment, which is why when I added this recent fight, I did not put in on Hurry Up's record, but made a new entry until I could figure it out. (Also what is the link for the story you copied - Newsday had it the way I entered it.)
Did Leon really have a fight ten days ago in Kyrgyzstan? And if so, why? I found it really hard to believe, and thought it must be a mistake, but it stayed on the schedule, and then a result came through. I didn't see anything in the Guyanese press about it.

Please change manager for Leon Moore to Samuel Layne. Having problems negotiating fights becouse of this error. His old trainer died, his new trainer is Lennox Daniels. He is born in Guyana and now fights out of Barbados. yes, I took Leon to fight Timur Shailezov. One judge score a draw, while the other two had him behind by 2 points. Really Timur only won the first round. Leon had Paul Lewis down 2 times in round 2, he tried to get up after the second knock down but fell again to the canvas.
In the fight with Miguel Antoine and Waldron Brooks; Miguel had Brooks down 2 times in the first round. Brooks then resorted to holding. he was deducted 1 point in the second 1 point in the 4th and the referee stop the fight in the 5th. christopher Henry was down in the second round after he knocked down Placid in the first, but the refree called it a slip. henry was ko in the 11th fell to the canvas as his head bounced off the bottom rope.

I've noted the changes for manager and trainer Samuel. Thanks. I have the other results from San Fernando, but I can't add Leon's result unless you provide me with a source, as the only report I've read has Moore losing. We should get a report from the T&T Commission soon anyway, so it will be academic at that point.
It's a shame Leon couldn't get some better fights after the effort against Pacheco. Anything better on the horizon?

cananews.com is one source. Leon has been offered other fights with rated fighters but the money is very small, and the circumstances do not allow for a fare result. He is very talented and should be world champion.
I can't access cananews.com - its a pay site. I looked through all of the Trinidadian and Guyanese news sources I could and could not find another mention of Leon's fight. I will try to expedite the commission report, so we can get this correct.
Is there a date set yet for the Kenny Dalton-Andrew Lewis card? I read you are co-promoting.
