Midwestern Trials
Midwestern Trials
There is a lot of young talent entering the Midwestern Trials along with a few older amateur boxers. It will be interesting to see what happens.
http://www.usaboxing.org/particpationlist.xls contains the list of boxers who sent in an entry form for the midwestern trials. It is probable that the actual registration list will be slightly different. The final rosters and draw will be conducted Sunday evening.
Results through Friday - semifinal fights. Cincinnati well represented and the young Shimmell through to the finals at 201. At 112, Rangel will fight Barry Dennis for the title, and at 106 Jerail Singleton has to fight his twin brother Terail for the win.

Yep, Jordan is in the finals. Now he has one more to win.
Jerail v. Terail=a pick 'em fight! Maybe they want to settle a family feud about who is better. I thought one of them should have moved up to 112 so they wouldn't have to box each other.
There have been some very good bouts and lots of good sportsmanship. Tonight should be more of the same.

Results so far - the Singleton brothers decided not to fight each other, which was probably the right choice - but what if they get matched up at the trials?

I talked to Jerail and he said that either he or his brother may move up to 112 so they can both compete and not have to face each other.emile wrote:Results so far - the Singleton brothers decided not to fight each other, which was probably the right choice - but what if they get matched up at the trials?

I enjoyed having "open scoring" for the corners in between rounds at the Midwest Trials.
One of the benefits of computer scoring is being able to disclose the scores after each round. The fans were still left in the dark until after the bouts were over. When I was in my son's corner, there wasn't a lot of surprises when the decisions were announced as he always had a large lead going into the fourth round and boxed well in the 4th round. When I was watching other bouts, I could sometimes tell which boxer was behind going into the 4th round as those boxers would sometimes get a little reckless trying to play catch up or trying to win by RSC.
