BoxRec Encyclopedia Question

Post by Musashi »

Question about copyrights: Would it be acceptable to reference results from usaboxing.org as a link in an individual fighters record? For example: See the bottom of Omar Pittman's record here where I have referenced a result.

You can't copyright sports results, it still might be useful to reference a result to provide extra info or to back up a (disputed) fact.

How do you copyright a sports result? That's public information. If the Knicks beat the Pistons 100-99, I can't post that score on my website because I found it on ESPN? By that logic, most of the results prior to the creation of BoxRec are copyrighted as they came from Ring magazine and other sources. Doesn't really make any sense, does it? Sports results are public information.

Wasn't MLB recently trying to claim copyright on their boxscores?

Didn't work though.

That's some funny stuff. Would it have pleased MLB if someone attending the game was keeping their own box score and not using "MLB's box score"?
