Curry, a harder if less gifted hitter smashed Benitez to the floor twice in a wild slugging 4th round with rights and hooks to the chin. Benitez got up at 4 the first time and took Mercante's mandatory standing 8 count. But Curry smashed Benitez down again with another barrage. Benitez got up at the count of 6 dazed and confused. He lay against the ring post in a neutral corner, almost out on his feet when the bell rang saving him from an almost certain knockout. But Curry was not finished , he sent the weakened Benitez to the floor again early in the 5th round. Again Benitez was on the verge of being finished but his skills, movement and sharper punching gradually turned the fight his way over the remaining rounds.
