Isiah Thomas

Post by fenix »

I've read that Manny Steward is saying Isiah Thomas will be heavyweight champion one day. Is this kid that good or is this one of Steward's few bad calls? I think that Manny is one of the people I have the most respect for in the world of boxing & he isn't prone to outlandish statements (i.e. Roy Jones, Don King), but IMO this might be one. First off Steward said a few years back that Octavio Lara would be a superstar. And that didn't really turn out so well. So Manny has shown a weakness towards over hyping kids that have been in his program for a long time. #2 why is he putting this kind of pressure on such a young kid. I've seen many amateurs who have done quite well as amateurs & just not have the desire or abililty to transfer those skills to the pro game. Is this just wishful thinking on Manny's part or does he think this will motivate Thomas or what's the reasoning behind putting this much weight on a kid so young & unproven. And also does anyone think that Thomas has shown the ability to be worthy of such high praise.

Isiah Thomas didn't show the skills or desire necessary to back-up Steward's praise. He has skills, but it isn't transferring over to wins at the big tournaments.

He has had at least 3 losses since last August - U-19, Blue & Gold and NGG. I know he had a couple of losses as a J.O. boxer. What is his senior (open class) record?

when he was a jr , he never lost a national tournamnet he, he's won alot of diffeernt nationals from 12 on up, and about 6 or 7 diff weight classes only lost 3 fights as a senior , i think so far it's 6-3 so his record is about 70 or 80 wins with only 5 losses

The overall record is impressive, but we will have to wait and see on his senior success and record.
