Yeah, the Setanta deal is actually a good one and far better than you usually get on Sky Box Office. Basically, if you're a freeview owner, you pay a penny shy of 11 quid and you can get the fight. But for that money, you also get Setanta sports for 2 months, free of charge, which lets you watch their first Premiership Football matches later in the term.

If you're a Sky or Satellite viewer, you pay 15 quid but get 8 channels, including Setanta 1, Setanta 2 and Setanta Golf.

You only get a month of free viewing if you buy the fight after June 22nd.

The fight is also, however, available at 20 quid as a PPV on Sky.

It's a smart move by Setanta, and a clever way of going about things. By buying the fight, they have a chance to hook boxing fans who also like other sports on their channels and Premiership coverage. By including the Premiership, they can try to entice football fans who have a casual interest in boxing.

And surely this offers much, much better value than Sky Box Office usually provide?

Comments, anyone?

Sorry but Hatton's not worth PPV. A guy who freely admits his last 2 performances were "shite." Never mind £20. Ricky still expects us to fill his coffers. Working class hero my arse. Greedy c_ _ _.

I've got freeview but not SKY. So this means I'll be able to pay to watch Setanta???

Sounds like a weird deal.... There must be a catch regarding this. I cannot understand why it would be cheaper to get it with all the channels, than the PPV. Is there some catch? Whats the point of offering it on as a PPV at all.

Yes.

If you have freeview you will only have to pay 11 quid to watch the fight. But I think you will also need to be subscribing to their Topup TV as well.
If your freeview box or integrated tv has a PCMCIA slot at the back then you will be able to get Topup TV for a one off price of about £20 including the card and one months subscription.

In short if you have never had topup tv with freeview the fight may well cost £31.

Another misguided post aimed at a fighter who won't be appreciated till they are gone. Yeah because it was really Hatton who decided to put his fight on PPV wasn't it? If you want to have a go aim it at his promoters who brokered the deal. They seem clueless enough. And Ricky Hatton is a working class hero yeah going by the thousands who follow him - but I'll never understand why people use this as a stick to beat him with. Just because he grew up on a council estate in Manchester does this mean that all his fights should be a tuppence for the people to watch or something, like he has no right to make the most for himself? Yeah working class hero's should fight for free shouldn't they

I think its a bit of a rip off but I'll still end up buying it. If I have regular sky can I still get Sentanna for a month or 2 for the fee?

it's a perfectly valid point which is why I wrote it. We're being asked to pay a ripoff price for a fight in which neither fighter has performed of recent and even Ricky has commented on how devalued he is by slamming his OWN performances as "shite". Hatton's promoters don't even make a profit out of him, we keep hearing about excessive financial demands and he's the only fighter we're asked to pay PPV for - this time, twenty fvcking pounds. Sure he's making the most he can, which he has a right to. He's also milking every ounce of misguided trust that the public have in him & if he doesn't perform this time what are Setanta going to do, charge less next time?

BM's Glyn Leach made an interesting point about his WC hero status. In his editorial he makes the point about Hatton wasting money on sanctioning fees when he's not even going to keep the title.

Oh and don't bother with the Corrales comparisons. Ricky's gone well off the boil post Tszyu and until next month so has his comp. Corrales fought St Clair & Garcia when they were unbeaten. He went on a run that included consecutive wins over Casamayor (after losing the 1st), Freitas and Castillo which right now Ricky can't compare with.

Look, we don't even get sustained action from Ricky anymore. He tlks about how Urango can't fail to be a great fight and then clutches his way to negative victory. I used to hate those SN mismatches but at least he had his turbo charged engine. I like Hatton but I can't see this any other way than him & his ppl really pushing their luck.

I can only assume that the reason Ricky went to Setanta, is they offered him the most money. His career decisions since leaving Warren, have, BY HIS OWN ADMISSION, been about making the maximum money. He has clearly stated he doesn't care about being on terrestrial TV, or being famous, he just wants big fights which make him a lot of money.

Fair enough. I've always liked Hatton, but I'm not shelling out any more money to watch this fight, sorry Ricky, but you ain't getting rich off of me. I've already paid to have a sky subscription, I'm buggered if I'm paying extra to watch this fight, which in my opinion isn't really worth the money being asked. And I don't really want anything else Setanta are offering, so I'm not interested in their little deal to entice me to shell out on a PPV, I already give Sky 30 odd quid a month as it is.

As for blaming this on Hatton's promoters, that's just balls. It's pretty clear that Fight Academy are merely there to broker deals for Hatton, Hatton and his dad have the final say on everything, so let's not sidestep the issue here. Hatton is on Setanta, because he wants to be there.

I think Hatton's made the most of his 'blue collar hero' status now, but the party is over as far as I am concerned, as his recent matchmaking and choices about his career just smack of a guy milking it for all it's worth, rather than someone who cares about their legacy and offering the fans the best fights out there.

From someone who has shelled out alone for a Tyson 49 second annihalation, this doesn't seem terrible if you have a few mates chipping in to watch the fight. £20 is steep and the undercard doesn't look super great, Clinton Woods facing off against Gonzalez is dissapointing for me and I don't think it will advance his career in any way going over old ground. Looking forward to seeing the improving Matthew Hatton, but after the rumours of him facing Gatti the opponent is never going to wet the appetite now.

So JamesMcdonnel and Maussa aren't going to spend £20 to watch Castillo-Hatton. Bollox they aren't. James is a huge Hatton fan and Maussas a Hatton fan plus hes picked Castillo to stop Hatton late in a close fight. And both paid to watch Hatton-Urango - oh wait that was £5 less  . I also think its a rip off and I know Hattons trying to get as much money from boxing fans as possible but I'm buying the fight. It could be 1 of the fights of the year

hatton ain't the 1st big name domestic fighter to fight on ppv and he won't be the last.

i don't like it anymore than the next person.

u can watch it for free if u wait a week.

just be patient and stop moaning ya silly sods.

You can't beat the excitement of a live fight though, it's not the same when you wait a week. I hated those Sky sports friday fights that had actually happened the weekend before and we already knew the results. True, better than not at all but it's not the same. This is the reason I'm a sucker for PPV's. It will never go away but also Hatton isn't going to fight forever so we might as well enjoy these nights while they last.

exactly. :box:

none of us like it.

but it's reality.

u either go with the flow or u take a stance.

i used to take a stance until i realised ppv was here to stay and my protests were in vein.

Incorrect, I didn't pay to watch the Urango fight, I didn't even have sky at the time.

I don't mind paying PPV for a really big fight, but I think it's becoming a real rip off, given the amount of money, over 500 quid a year I already fork out to watch boxing.

You all need to stop complaining. We got the Mayweather De La Hoya fight free, (well near enough with sky) whereas they had to shell out $55 in the US and do so on regular occasions. Hatton is the only UK fighter on PPV and for a fight against Castillo it's worth it.

You London lads should pool together and have boxing meet ups. One person buys the Sky/PPVs and everyone chips in - would make sense. Obviously difficult to put into practise though. I don't like PPVs more than the next man but its the way of the world sadly.

yes, i'll buy it because you've got two top names in there hatton and castillo. but i can't help but be disappointed and hatton smacks of opportunism.

and there could have been something else on the undercard. something extra to spice it up ie an outstanding prospect, but it doesn't look likely.

there's always the tease before a fight and - of course - little that matches seeing a fight live for the excitement. but it's like, pre fight ricky will go "Me and Castillo are going to war, I'm going to do it for YOU the fans who came all this way to see me" and after the fight you can see him going "Well, erm...you can't be 100% all the time / I were shite."

That's a pretty dramatic difference. In fact it's a bitter disappointment that's seen him drop from ANY sensible p4p list.

This is starting to become the rule not the exception. Soon I can see Hatton's little earner losing steam.

They could have got Witter-Harris on the undercard and fought the winner if they really wanted too. They could probably have that fight for 200k and write it off as a business cost. No chance in a million years of that happening though. Would be an outstanding card though.

I doubt Rickys made any new fans, hes maximising the income from the current fan base. Hes a good business man.

Ricky hasn't come accross as the warrior he pretends to be in the last few fights. For Castillo he may be back to his best. If not Castillo may drag him into deep water and make him be a warrior to survive. I think it will be a good fight, if both are off it could be a grab and jab stinker though.

Art of war makes a good point and these money men are milking it while they can, with the distribution of better quality downloads almost immediately after the bouts these hefty PPV's will one day become a thing of the past. Why pay £20 when you can download a good copy an hour later? Or watch it on that YouTube thing or similar for free.
