Anybody remember this fight?
Leonard was a fast climber, expected to be the second coming of Ali. Flashy, articulate, good looking oh yeah and one hell of a boxer.
Had never heard of Ecklund before. I expect he was a club fighter positioned to be a stepping stone for Leonard on his way up to capture a belt.
But..Ecklund fought his A** off in this fight and in my opinion got robbed. The decision went to Leonard. Should have been a draw
a while back i saw a documentary on HBO about true stories of Crack and Heroin. Ecklund was on it and wound up doing time for robbery i think.He did'nt do much after the Leonard fight except go downhill and get a habit.

I think Dick Ecklund is Micky Ward's brother. Dick took the name of Ecklund to hide the fact he was fighting professionally from his mother.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
The Leonard fight was entertaining and Ecklund gave a good account of himself but you may have been persuaded by the hometown crowd rooting for Dick. Leonard took this one IMO.
