Longer Bouts

Post by Roberts J »

I would welcome It, Actually, I would love if this happened, but what are the chances ????

The International Amateur Boxing Association is considering whether to make bouts longer and eliminate headgear. The proposals are being studied by AIBA’s medical commission after a reform committee suggested the changes at a recent meeting, according to spokesman Richard Baker.

If approved by the medical committee, AIBA would try having matches last for three rounds of three minutes each, rather than the current four rounds of two minutes each. This change, along with the removal of protective headgear worn by amateurs, could apply to selected competitions from August onward, but not at the 2008 Olympics or the 2007 world championships.

The AIBA is also set to change the current electronic scoring system after the 2008 Beijing Olympics. http://ababoxing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=417

I thought the shorter 2 minute rounds were an attempt to make amateur boxing more exciting. If they go back to 3 minute rounds, there may be more RSC's as there will be bouts where the guy is tired and getting hit a lot.

Roberts - how is the new trainer/gym going?
