Could Witter now fight Castillo ?

Ok so Harris & Witter are supposed to be squaring off after Hennessy won the purse bids, nothing has been signed & sealed as of yet. Look at the WBC rankings & Castillo is ranked number 1. If Harris is playing funny buggers couldn't team Witter try & face Castillo instead. Check out the lastest rankings as of 31st May. I think we've all heard the Castillo owed quite alot of his purse from the Hatton fight to certain people so maybe Castillo would jump at the chance. Any opinions ?

Doesn't Witter have to take the mandatory face unless the mandatory withdraws. Would be a great fight for Witter career wise

Would Castillo lose his number 1 position for fighting for the ring magazine belt ?

Usually if a fighter is fighting for another world title they are put number as not applicable & not ranked.

Does anyone know if Castillo has given up his number 1 ranking?

I dot think you lose your ranking for "the ring magazine" belt, do you?

In anycase if castillos rib is broken he wont be able to fight again for quite a while will he.

Wasnt Castillo vs Ngoudjo a WBC elim? so technically he would be on to fight the winner of Harrs-Witter?

Its a BAD fight for Witter - he wont take him out in 4, and ergo will look worse against him than Hatton did,

But fighting and losing after an eliminator would take him out of the rankings wouldn't it? Technically Hatton would be WBC no1 wouldn't he? Although WBC knowing this fight is unlikely will not put him at number 1.

Witters profile goes up if he beats Castillo regardless, at least he would get on HBO/Showtime and an old come forward Castillo might make Witter look very good. Witters problem is his opponents don't come to win and this makes him look bad, Castillo would come to win and make him look better (in theory)

1 question is - where does Castillo go now. Retirement is an easy answer but I doubt it. Cotto/Mosley probably won't bother with him.

Witter gives him a way back in and it make sense from both fighters perspectives. He could fight Cintron/Margarito but they are very big. 140lbs doesn't look too hard for Castillo to make and there are belts he could go for. Warren wouldn't let him near Mbaiye, Magillagi may fight him, as the Tores-Holt winner may do

Castillo v Gatti at 147? Would make life easier for Castillo. He'd be competitive with Gatti.

I know Gatti seems like the answer toevery matchmaking question right now but it would be a good fight.

Can't see Castillo being offered a purse that would get him down to 140 again.

Castillo will drop down the rankings following the loss to Hatton. He was number one in the WBC rankings at the start of the year, but as he was always going to fight Hatton, the WBC arranged the eliminator between Harris and Lazcano, who I think were ranked 2 and 3. Castillo-Witter will not happen.
