John L sullivan mistakes on his record

Post by kareemabdullah »

He had a rematch with Charley Mitchell in France. Their second meeting took place in 1888 on the grounds of a chateau at Chantilly, France in driving rain. It went on for more than two hours, at the end of which both men were unrecognisable and had suffered much loss of blood; neither could lift his arms to punch and the contest was considered a draw.

Plus in a boxing book I have from 1959 it says that he had a 4 round draw with Duncan Mcdonald. But boxrec has this down as being a no contest.

He actually had I think 35 wins-1 loss-and 3 draws with 30 ko wins. Quite a good record.
So as his draw with Mitchell was in between his draw with Patsy Cardiff and his only loss to James J Corbitt that means he was 35-0 and then in his last 4 fights he went o-1-3.
Please boxrec can you change the record, thanks very much

The rematch with Mitchell was fought under London Prize Ring rules, such fights aren't listed on boxrec.
Duncan McDonald fight was an exhibition, McDonald was a member of John L's troupe. Adam Pollack's book has the details.
