This type of event is considered an "international club meet" as opposed to an "international dual meet" that is sponsored by USAB. I find the statement "Texas Olympic Contenders" to be exceedingly misleading since Eric Fowler is the only boxer who will be competing in the Olympic Trials.

Mel, agree with your assessment of how it was advertised.

I just copied the information off of the program.

It was sanctioned by USA boxing - Gulf Association.

JT Mendez is trying for a spot in the Mexico Olympic Trials.

Juan Leija was slated to compete but withdrew.

Gerard "TinTin" Ibarra was our best prospect competing and won Outstanding Boxer of the event.

If you compare the TX athletes who competed in 2006, they were older and had better rankings. This year was harder to get our best locals to compete with their focus on the Trials and other recent tournaments.

Hey - I wasn't dissing you. :D Just picking apart the way, as you said, it was advertised. Just very misleading. Sounds like it was good competition for both the Texans and Canada.
