Macca at heavyweight?

Post by Deserter »

Have to say that I'm genuinely shocked that a few posters on here are advocating a move to heavyweight for Enzo at some point. In my view that would be tantamount to career suicide as all his strengths would be negated. What's the general opinion?

Not for me.

I believe he's still slightly questionable in the chin department. There were a few moments on Saturday night where he didnt look overly comfortable when caught. The bigger they are, the harder they hit!

Off the top of my head, he came in light for Braithwaite.

He was 194. I don't think there will be any rush to get him up to Heavyweight but for a guy with his frame it's a natural progression after a successful stint at Cruiserweight.

The biggest problems he had in a recent fight was Hobson (1st one). Hobson is one of the very biggest, tallest cruisers around. If Mark can trouble Enzo, then any heavy abover 6'4 will have a real advantage.

Why not just use his size/strenght advantages at cruiser and be a good champ?

194. In my book he is a heavyweight.

I dont watch any of the massive Heavys anymore as the division is full of old men, fat old men, or huge robotic types.

The cruisers are for me the new heavys. Just like the old days

200. or 205/210 by the time they get in the ring is plenty for me.

The cruisers have young, physically fit and athletic guys.

Its a much better division than HW.

The cruisers have turned out tonnes of good fights over the years, right from day one, and absolutely monstrous punchers.

Certainly be a lot of fun having punchers like Enzo and Haye at heavy. Maybe that's where the two will eventualy meet?

Frank must be a lot more confident about putting his man in with Haye after Saturday's excellent showing.

The way he went down against Swaby & Scott shows that he'll never be 100% bulletproof, but he took a few shots of WB no problems...

Maccarinelli says he'd go to heavyweight, but he wants all the cruiserweight belts first:

Secondsout says Macca-Cunningham unification might be on the Calzaghe-Kessler undercard. Apparently King and Cunningham are receptive to the idea.

I'm sure king would be happy to get options on Macca, it's not like cunningham is setting the world on fire is it?

I don't like the look of Macca for heavyweight, I think he's a bit lanky and long in the neck, I said the same about Haye, but Haye is definetly the more compact and solid of the two.

Macca is a big bloke, but he's not even ripped at 194, he could probably dry himself out and get under 190 as he always carries a bit of body fat.

Then again, at 210-215, with his handspeed and mobility, he could probably twat some of the bigger guys around.

Yes, he does not have the look of a heavy - unlike Haye who looks huge at cruiser and muscles coming out of his ears, macca always looks a little fleshy.

He doesn't have a cruiserweight's head - you know the ones that look like cannonballs. Macca's head / chin looks too vulnerable.

With a very good weight and nutrition programme he could surprise though. Just think his chin lets him down.

I wouldn't recommend it, but I guess that is where the big money is - In my view he's a far better fighter at cruiser weight.

Cunningham definitely isn't setting anything on fire. Some feel he is a fast and slick title holder. Others felt he was a bit exposed 'losing' to Wlodarczyk (who he then beat in a rematch) in Poland.

I think it suits King to send fighters away now and again, because it's pretty clear that he hasn't got the means to keep all of his stable busy.

As to the heavyweight question - stick to what you're good at.

Enzo's never had problems making the cruiser limit, even when it was 190. Now it's 200 and he still comes in closer to 190. He isn't a heavy. Let him try to clean up at cruiser. Better to be a champ there than get KO'd by some mediocre heavy.

He should stick at cruiser for a while longer in my opinion and try to unify a few of the titles. I assume that if Haye beats Mormeck he'll vacate and head straight for heavyweight, unless Warren makes him a huge offer to fight Macca. That would leave the way open for a very big fight between the pair of them at heavyweight in a couple of years time.

If Mac can get and beat Cunningham, he'll be the best money fight out there for Haye. Provided Haye beats Mormeck. Money talks and with Haye struggling at the weight, Macca would have the decided edge in a fight between otherwise evenly matched punchers.

I reckon Haye punches harder than Macca and has a better chin, but the weight-making could have an effect on that as well. I'd prefer to see the fight take place at heavyweight though personally, as that would just make it bigger over here.

I believe Macca's stamina at cruiser would make him the winner at that weight & I reckon haye would knock Enzo out at heavy.

Would be great if they could have 2 fights, one at each weight.

That would just be fantastic, and we could end-up with 2 duel-title holders at Cruiser (bit like formerly at 12st) simultaneously. If Enzo can get a unification then he should drop any other plans and go for it.

He is 26 years old, there's a good 4 or 5 years to unify the 4 versions - get in a dozen-or-so defences, and then step-up to Heavyweight. We've only ever had 2 men get into double-figures with Cruiser defences (Gomez WBC, Nelson WBO) so he'd be in a prime position to leave a serious legacy at Cruiser.

I'd leave Heavyweight for a good 3 years at least. I think Macca is right, win every Cruiserweight title first. :TU:

best wishes
