Obituary - James Oyebola

Post by dondada »

If you read this in most papers, it will be about how a former boxer was killed because he asked someone to stop smoking.

As I say in the piece, for those of us who knew of James Oyebola before he became a murder victim, a boxing related tribute here:

http://www.britishboxing.net/news_2549- ... ebola.html

What a bloody waste.

A terrible tragedy and just a ridiculous waste of human life. Asking someone to stop smoking and then getting shot dead? It's just typical of the new gun culture that is becoming inherent in British society.

James Oyebola intervened and paid with his life.

This country is done in.

Politicians are oblivious to what happens on the streets and out of touch with reality.

They are more interested in the greenhouse effect, saving the 'kin planet and turning up to meet Bono.

Well done Mr McNeilly, a fine tribute.

I am afraid Oyebola has lost his life due to Labour's 10-years-worth of pansy-pansy, softy-softy-style approach to crime/punishment, and their obsession with giving "human rights" to those who are barely human in the first place.

Bring back the death penalty - anyone who shoots a bouncer asking them to stop smoking has no right being alive in a moralic, valued, westernised country...... in my opinion. That person can serve no good to us all if they are capable of that, so let's get them gone.

Written in sadness, not anger.

R.I.P Mr Oyebola.

I know Terry, It's frightening, very frightening. More and more shootings happening all the time.

Actually, James' death has been on the national news Terry, don't see how it's not fashionable, just look on google, it's been everywhere.

What is worrying is that Fulham is a pretty safe area compared to most. I grew up there, and it's always had it's share of housing estates and a rough side that most people don't see, but it's a middle class suburban haven these days, but even there people are carrying guns, though wouldn't be surprised if they travelled down from another area.

Hopefully CCTV will mean they can track these guys movements, and they will get what they deserve, let's hope and eye witness can say who pulled the trigger.

The shooting in stockwell frightens me immenesly, a gang of guys in their 20's wearing masks and hoods cycling down the street armed with guns, christ almighty it's becoming like the wild west!

I love South London, but all these recent events are making me consider moving somewhere else. I don't want to end up living in some white middle class enclave, but I don't want to end up getting knifed or shot dead one night because I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They need to stop the guns coming into this country pronto, and they need to demolish these ghettos where the trouble is coming from, and rebuild fast. There's whole swathes of south london than need to be bulldozed, rebuilt and rejuvenated. 6 teenage assasinations in the last few months in South London alone. This isn't random violence, these are gang killings, a very worrying trend is emerging.

Quite honestly, it makes me sick to the stomach.

Violent crime is going through the roof, and it is about time someone with some back bone implemented some authoritive measures to deal with it.

Just today there is reports of a teenager being the victim of a drive by shooting.

The happy clapping brigade have had their time at trying to get to the route of the problem and the net result is, our streets are unsafe.

Well, thank you very much for allowing this country to degenerate into what it has become (and it is going to get a lot worse)

Very nice article, well done Ian. This is yet another good bloke taken from us by the lowest scum of the earth.

Hanging needs to be brought back in the UK so the good no longer die young.

Rest in piece big man.

Yes, sorry Ian, forgot to add, a fitting tribute to James, nice touch at the end.

BC, I understand why you say that, but as far as I am aware, there were plenty of murders happening when we did have the death penalty. Why were those people not deterred?

Unfortunately, murders tend not to be premeditated, and I doubt those guys went out with the intention of killing someone. At the end of the day, one guy lost the plot, pulled the trigger, and the end result was James Oyebola lies dead. I have a horrible feeling nobody will be convicted for this either.

I also remember seeing a documentary on capital crimes, and for most people they never commit murder again, it's usually just a 'moment of madness' crime that most sane people regret. Capital punishment is a knee-jerk reaction that solves nothing.

Something though definetly needs to be done about the hotbed of gang culture that London is becoming, whatever problems are generating this, and I'm sure they are not simple ones, we need to tackle it NOW before things get worse. Why on earth would anyone want to take a gun into a nightclub?

It would be a nice touch if the Boxing community came together for a retrospective benefit evening in his honour somewhere down the line.

Nice tribute Ian.

Definitely a real tragedy. It beggars belief that there are so-called "human beings" that even exist who would react this way. Hopefully they are caught, their "human rights" declared void, and then they are dealt with accordingly. I suggest slinging them in an incinerator.

A black man is shot dead, and the four perpetrators were also black. When is something going to be done to sort out the culture of the black community. Don't get me wrong - there are some bloody nasty white and asian individuals out there, but the point is I can't recall the last time a white guy was blown away on the streets by a bunch of white guys.

I suppose when your role models are 50 Cent rather than Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali this is what you get. It won't be long before half of London is like Compton, LA.

If they did not have the intention of killing someone and momentarily lost the plot. At what point did they, calmly stuff a gun in their baggy arsed jeans and worse still load it? These people, if they are short tempered shouldn't carry weapons if the temptation is there. James you are looking at it with a logical mind. These people have no logic they are cold blooded killers who should be dangling at the end of a rope.

Yes, I agree that Murders still happened when we had the Death Penelty
but not on such a regular basis and not in such horrific circumsatances. Mistakes were made back then but with modern DNA and forensic science
this would be unlikely.

The death penalty will be a deterant in the main and to most but I am not daft enough to think this will erradicate murder full stop. But the piece's of shit who did this and others like them have no place on this earth and prison is nothing compared to what James family have been put through and will continue to live with.

I might sound heavy handed but trust me, as a victim of violent crime, I am very much in favour of the islamic way of dealing with criminals.

Cold blooded and premeditated murderers should hang, no question. One year in prison and with the full knowledge of their day with destiny.

A lot of these wannabes seem to listen to that fooking awful UK casio calculator rap with some ingrate shouting a lot.
Unfortunately I'm not down enough with the kids to know what its called, but there is a style of music on one of the cable TV channels which just seems to be inner city London kids doing this sort of high-speed bleating at each other in a strange sort of pseudo-African American twang. Lots of gold jewellery and bizarre arm movements going on.

F**k me, it's absolutely awful, but must be a growing scene. Perhaps I'm just getting old (at 28), but you must be borderline demented to listen to it.

Where did all the decent young people go? They are being marginalised by loser scum, who in turn take over the cities, and hanging around pubs waiting to shoot people so it seems.

The major difference between then and now is the prevelance of guns. Guns have become fashion accessories, and the thing is, it doesn't take much bollocks to pull a trigger.

Back in the Krays time, a shooting was a massive incident, hence most crime gangs shied away from the attention it drew, and tended to knife people or just bash people to death.

We'll maybe never know, but it's quite possible that none of the three guys had killed anyone before, and qutie possible that two of them didn't expect it to happen. It strikes me as a spur of the moment 'respect' incident.

I've been a victim of violent crime, but I don't see what you are propsing as the way forward. Crime and violence happen for a reason, we have the biggest ever gap between the haves and have nots in modern history in this country, is it any coincidence that

A lot of us here are in our late 30's or order, we grew up in different times when it was normal to have respect for elders, and where people lived in communities where everyone knew each other. These youg guys have nothing like that around them, it's 15-20 year old who are committing all this crime. I'm sure some of us here got up to no good of one kind or another at that age, the odd ruck here and there, but nothing like that.

There's a generation coming through who don't give a shit about anything, or at least a worrying proportion of them. Everyone round my manner walks around with a scowl and a gangster lean walk, you so much as look at them, and they are ready to have it for no other reason than you might be dissing them. It's frigging mental, but something is behind this, and it's got to be sorted.

The death penality is like a sticking plaster after someone has already bled to death, punishment with no rehabilitation or chance of one.

I've never heard any evidence to suggest that the death penalty is any kind of deterrant in the USA, why should it be here?

It may make us feel better to execute people on behalf of the state, but what good does it serve, given that most murderers don't reoffend when they get out. It's usually thieves that reoffend. Most murderers regret their actions after a massive stint in jail, and have worked out their problems that led them to do it in the first place by the time they get out, usually as much older men.

I agree that these guys were scum, but I'd like to make sure we are not generating more of their ilk.

Are we all sure that James would approve of his name being used for all sorts of draconian social policy suggestions and universal condemnations of youth culture?

I would think it would be more respectful in this thread to offer condolences, follow the developments towards the capture of the particular responsible parties and such.
