Pan Am Games US team
Overall a good showing by the team. Downs with the bronze, his final fight was close. Who would of thought Yanez would have gotten a gold, or even Dargan. Andrade was the most impressive overall, and cleary got jobbed. He didn't fight a great fight, but did plenty to win the gold. Nonetheless I think the U.S. might have turned a few heads internationally.

I think the USA did very well, and I am proud of the team. I think it is a real shame that Dargen is not in the trials. I think he was in better shape for the Pan Am and wonder how Molina would have done in his place. I was not impressed with some of the scoring and I tried hard to get some sort of pattern that could be used, but it seems very inconsistant. I guess just load up with big clean straight single punches in the middle of the ring and hope they get scored. Forget the body shots. quick hooks. combos and jabs, they don't score them.
I was not that surprised by Yanez's performance. He has been fairly dominant in the US for the last 1.5 years. Downs performed better than I expected. Dargan finally lived up to his potential. He has been an excellent boxer for many years, but recently he has had some injuries. I hope he does well as a pro. Andrade performed well and I thought he would. The scoring is very inconsistent and not always fair to U.S. boxers, but these 4 proved that U.S. boxers can medal if they work hard. Now I hope we can get a few medals in Chicago, especially with the home ring advantage. Then the stage will be set for a at least 4 medals in China.
