Yoan Pablo Hernandez

Post by Autobarn »

This 11-0 pro has caught my eye. I was looking for info on his amateur achievements. He's an impressive 6' 4 southpaw in the cruiserweight division, from Cuba, in the pro ranks.

Apparently he ledt the amateurs early, and went for the pros young. Have very little info on him apart from a Silver at the Pan American Games (2003) and participated in the 2004 Olympics, losing in the 2nd round before going pro for Sauerland in 2005 age of nearly 20.

Any info will be welcome.

This site lists the most important amateur bouts of Yoan Pablo Hernandez.

He was a world junior champion in 2002 but as a senior boxer he failed in every major international competition. After being KO'ed by Odlanier Solis he was dropped down to light heavy and despite failing at the Pan Am Games he qualified for the Olympics at a weight where he got very weakened. After the Olympics he got back up to heavyweight but didn't have any international success before defecting in Germany.
He's done well so far as a pro but I doubt he`ll do half of what Juan Carlos Gomez did in the cruiserweight division.
