Hatton v Mayweather: Who Wins!
Hatton v Mayweather: Who Wins!
Long before all the hype and propaganda kicks in, i'd like to see an early reading of how us Brits think the fight will go.
Another poll is sure to be started near fight time, for me it will be interesting to see how the votes differ then!

I think Mayweather UD 8-4 type result
However despite thinking this I'm going to predict Hatton wins. If Mayweather wins, its the result everyone predicted so you get no kudos. However if Hatton wins you look like a boxing prediction genius because hes the underdog
Hatton may have problems because - hes not used to getting beat to the punch, hes not used to punching air against a defensive mastermind, hes not used to lightening fast counters, hes not used to a fighter that moves round the ring finding different angles to fire from
Mayweather may have problems because - Hatton throws 30% more punches per round than PBF throws, Hes like Castillo but faster/stronger/fitter, PBF does have a few more problems defending himself on the inside, Hatton will be the fittest fighter hes faced and the best combination of workrate/speed/strength hes faced
So that makes it hard to predict. Mayweather seems very focused on this fight in recent interviews - when asked about who he wants next he says 'I'm concentrating on whooping Ricky Hattons ass', so unlike some fighters he isnt looking past the man in front of him
I think the difference in this fight will be Mayweathers more compact, accurate punches and his defense making Hatton miss. Whether countering or leading Mayweather should land the more accurate shots.

Hatton points, RAZOR thin, i think he can JUST nab it.
Hatton's strength will exploit Floyd's negativity imo, and send him to the ropes where he can do what Baldomir De La Hoya, Judah, and even Castillo couldn't - pin him there and hurt him to the body.
Then comes the Mayweather factor - he's tough, he's VERY clever, and he can move and run and dance if that is the tactic he needs. So Mayweather won't just lie back and take it obviously he'll be using his amazing style and ability, which is also very effective for outpointing Hatton!
Richly competitive fight, i just think Hatton's body attack will gradually snowball on Floyd and thats what'll make the difference in perhaps the most evenly matched competitors for some years.
i'm going for an incredibly close decision for Hatton, perhaps one warranting a rematch. but what worries and annoys is the fact that American judges are very reluctant to score an even round. if Mayweather has some moments embarassing Ricky with fast counters, but then Ricky finds a way to get Floyd back on the ropes and visibly hurts him with body shots, in what was a fiercely contested and blatantly even round, they just DO NOT score it even for some reason they make themselves go either way which could be a troublesome factor when it comes time to announce the winner.

Preferable to the cards that are either filled in the day before the fight or the cards filled in after the 90yo judge wakes up from a snooze in round 12 and realises he needs to score 11 rounds quick smart.jamesmcdonnell wrote:A lot of modern boxing judges don't even seem to credit body shots AT ALL.
Mosley-Delahoya 2 certainly had to heavily score bodyshots
I don't think we've had too many terrible decisions this year - which may mean we'll get 1 soon. Although DHOPs-Forbes was a gift

Don't forget the Welterweight Champions Curse!!! Welter champs have had bad luck:
Judah - upset by Baldomir when not expecting a threat
Spinks - Loses to the man he beat
Mayorga - robbed?
Forrest - Massive upset, maybe should have won the rematch
Mosley - Massive upset, maybe should have won the rematch
Delahoya (Mosley) - Massive upset, maybe should have won the rematch
Delahoya (Trinidad) - ROBBED no rematch
Quartey - ROBBED
Whitaker - robbed?
There have been so many upsets and robberys for the Welter title in recent years. From Mosley onwards no one has managed many defenses at all.

the look on hattons parents faces as he gets bludgeoned by floyd will be great. his comments after the fight will be classic (if he is able to talk).
it's going to be perfect. can't wait!!
What a class act you are.
Hatton can win, but it will be difficult in a ring of 20 feet or over. Hopefully Ray has negotiated an 18 foot ring.
Ricky needs to show no respect and fight like a human windmill, and be prepared to do so for 12 rounds every minute.
He should hit mayweather Low, on the break, and rough him up with the head EARLY.
He has to ruffle Mayweathers feathers early and then stick to him like glue.
A performance similar to Fraziers against Ali in 71 is required, but with a very fast start by Ricky.
I will go for Ricky to win 116 to 112 in an entertaining fight
He has to surprise Floyd and throw caution to the wind every round.

I agree Hatton will need to throw caution to the wind, but against Mayweather, Ricky cannot afford to be reckless like he doe in previous bouts. If he does, he will be picked off, simple as that. Mayweather is by far the most accurate, skillful man Hatton has ever faced.
I'm sure Billy Graham will drum it into Hatton there can be no recklessnes on his part, but one never knows how Ricky may react on the night. Remember the Castillo fight? Graham wanted Hatton to calm down, take his time more, break Castillo down etc. Hatton didn't obey his instructions. The result proves Hatton's approach was the correct one.
Floyd has tremendous hand, foot-speed. I personally don't feel Floyd will be in position too long for Hatton to land much. We must not forget that Mayweather may still have things in his make-up that he hasn't shown us yet. The man's in his prime & I reckon we haven't seen the best of him yet.
I can't see there being an ending early, unless there's an injury, or accidental foul etc. That would be a sour conclusion for everyone.
I'm picking Mayweather by wide points decision. However, Floyd could surprise us all and score a TKO victory, particularly if Hatton is reckless in his approach. They say Mayweather doesn't have a decent punch, Ricky should not adopt this attitude in my view.
I hope Hatton wins. It would be marvelous if he were to emerge victorious. What a brilliant boost for British boxing a Hatton win would be.

I can assure you that he knows a great deal more about boxing than you. After all what have you learned in the years you have had your head and tounge firmly entrenched in the backside of various promoters whilst stealing ticket money from them¿
Most people on hear regard you as a prick, so why dont you just go away you cannon headed mug.
Spot on KO Artist with both your assessment of Hatton's chances and of the other bloke being a bit of a knob.
I worry (yes worry I want Hatton to win) about Mayweather stunning Hatton and then following up with fast hands and a premature stoppage getting called out of the blue when Hatton is covering up and well capable of coming back. I can see that scenario.
Hatton will have to be so incredibly fit for this to even think about fighting at the tempo required to win consecutive rounds from PBF.
I went for PBF on a wide points decision as it's the likeliest scenario I can envisage, PBF winning something like 9-3, Ricky enjoying the odd moment of succes but nothing like often enough to influence the judges.
But if Ricky gets himself into the shape he was in when he ripped the title from Tszyu and can find a way of making Floyd dig deep then who knows.
I can't wait and I don't know if I'm going to watching in the MGM Grand or my living room.

Yanks always had trouble making that distinction in my book.MIKEE wrote:

In the endless Lennox vs Holyfield/Tyson/Bowe 'debates' I used to participate in I always accused of picking Lennox to win because I was a fan/biased etc. They just couldn't believe my predictions of Lewis beating Holyfield were objective and then generally proceeded to call him an English chinny punk. Who was biased?
I was in New York in April and chatting to a couple of lads who worked at Grand Central (not rent boys!) and discussing the upcoming DLH-PBF fight. I said I thought Flord would win on points and they said 'Why do you like Mayweather etc?'.
I know it's a turn of phrase, if you think someone will win you 'like' them but I still think it clouds the issue a bit for our friends across the atlantic.
So as with Mikee, I picked Mayweather to beat Hatton but I'll be screaming my lungs out for Ricky.
I cheered on Henman at every Wimbledon but never thought he would beat Sampras.
Same with the England football team and on and on.....

It will be the best British welterweight wins since Honeyghan - Curry back in 1986. People forget just how good Curry was at the time. For those in any doubt look at how he starched Milton McCrory.
Just a shame Honeyghan blew it against Starling.
he just came up against a quality fighter.
