Could Eddie Cool have been an all time great?

Post by Expug »

An outstanding boxer with a stellar record with victories over Lou Ambers,
Chino Alvarez, Freddie Cochrane, Fritzie Zivic, Benny Bass, Johnny Jadick and rival Lew Massey.
Phillys Cool had the ability but there was one problem he was a falling down drunk at the height of his career and washed up at 28.
Another guy who couldnt kick the hooch.
What might have been?
Anyone have more info on Cool?

This guys story is intriguing.
I read somewhere that he said something like "My dad was dead at 32 I guess im gonna go early also" .
Something to that effect.
Reminds me of Mickey Mantles outlook.

I think his name would make a great stage name for a musician. Or just the name of a band.

Is this the Eddie Cool that later became a boxing writer?
Cos if it is then he made the fights come to life for many of us.
I remeber 'Fighter' magazine down here had a cover that read "Eddie Cool on THE Fight" refering of course to Ali-Fraser 1.
I often wonder what happened to Eddie
