Sammy Reeson - where are they now? More info

I was thinking about early Cruiserweight fights and remembered Sammy Reeson fighting Deleon in teh late 80's.

As I remember Reeson and Glenn McCrory both fighting in close timespans for the title and I thought Reeson had a real chance but MCCrory was going to get beaten.

Funny how things work out. Have not heard anything about Sammy since - he just disappeared like a ghost. Anyone know what he's up to? Or any info RE his early carreer or amateur form?

Yeah, Reeson was a decent fighter but lacked a big southpaw punch and was cut prone. Quite brilliantly managed, he still earned his world title shot by lifting British and European titles. De Leon, however, proved too slick and heavy-handed (and had given Evander Holyfield a good fight in his previous one).
Sadly, the old memory tells me Sammy got banged up.

Remember Reeson looking the most sickly world title challenger ever. He wasn't particularly well defined physically had bags under his eyes and generally looked tired, but he was a good domestic operator but De Leon bossed him and just took him out after wearing him down.

Sam's first manager Tony Lavelle died in an horrendous traffic smash on the M6 in the mid-80's on the way to a show in Manchester. I seem to recall that Keith Bristiol was driving (a solid light-heavyweight) and lost control in the fast lane and the car flipped over the crash barrier into oncoming traffic.
Ironically, Keith survived.
It was one of those tragedies that rocked the game. Lavelle and all his fighters seemed very close, and Sam must have been cut up. F rank Warren took over as Sam's manager and did an unbelievable job in Lavelle's memory.
