Best fighter of the 90's...
Best fighter of the 90's...
Let's hear it..
I pick Ricardo Lopez, what he did was simply dominate. No ducking, just fighting, winning, and moving on.

roy jones ducks all the time, so No
Tito, lost against De la Hoya(wrong desition) so NO.
De la Hoya is one of my favorites fighters, but No. :)
I wish I could say Tommy Morrison, but I have to realistic.
Joe Calzaghe(never duck an opponent, and willing to fight Roy Jones, or either Hopkins)
so my answer is

9 years ago...but interesting take on the debate.
Re: Best fighter of the 90's...
Either Lopez or Holyfield.
I'd go with Evander Holyfield.

Wow, Lopez might be the most overrated fighter in history. Whitaker by a significant margin.

Do you honestly believe this is close to the truth? Lopez was never even very famous FFS. Besides, he didn't win a bunch of fixed fights. He was a highly respectible fighter who led his division, abeit a weak one, for a long time.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Wow, Lopez might be the most overrated fighter in history. We do agree that Whitaker was the best in the 90's. His level of opposition and victories over them are unmatched for the decade.

I was speaking more along the lines of hardcore fans that know what they're talking about. So no, I don't think he is the most overrated fighter ever. Jack Dempsey is for me.
I'm not sure why calling someone overrated means they suck to so many people. He was an exquisitely talented fighter, but seven people think he was greater than Whitaker. That's crazy overrated to me. On accomplishments I wouldn't rank him over anyone listed.

I hear you on that. He is simultaneously underrated and overrated.

Whitaker and Jones Jr. are the only two logical choices.

I'd go with Holyfield for his epics with Foreman, Bowe, Mercer, Moorer, Tyson and coming back to, in my opinion, shade Lewis in the rematch. A true blood & guts warrior!

Christ almighty, you literally could not be anymore misinformed.Tommy Gunn wrote: Joe Calzaghe(never duck an opponent, and willing to fight Roy Jones, or either Hopkins)
Do you realise up until he fought Lacy, in 2005, even British fans in huge numbers nicknamed him 'Sick Note'? Do some research into that.

Based on their work in the 90's? I can see the argument for Holyfield if you don't take into consideration consistency or dominance and just base it purely on top wins, but Hopkins? Not a chance. Roy already proved that.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I rate Holyfield and Hopkins higher than Roy.King Carlos wrote:Whitaker and Jones Jr. are the only two logical choices.

LOL.
Firstly, he didnt. De La Hoya beat him, any which way you slice it.
Secondly, Lopez (literally), Jones and Whitaker virtually did the same whilst showing a hundred times the talent.
Lastly, he isnt even the best Welterweight of the decade! To pick him as FOTD, well, there are more reasons than Dalmations you'll be the first and last to nominate him.

Tyson was an 80s great and Whitaker straddled the two decades, half and half, in terms of his prime. If looking at 90s only, it's a tie between Jones and Oscar.
