Enjoyable scrap that one....

After a ropey first round Carl (using first name not because of any affection or familiarity but it's easier than typing Johanneson) was always in control, I think Gomez landed the odd shot but it looked more exciting than it was because Gomez was so full on.

Never really taken to Gomez, entertaining but he is a bit pikey, was quite pleased Carl took him out.

yeah gomez isn't everyones cup of tea.

he's good for tv though.

carl used his brain and paid gomez.

gomez was swinging for the fences too much.

had little left at the end.

vann was bang on with the stoppage really.

gomez was only getting more of it.

Fantastic fight. Two brave fighters, but Johannse was a notch or two above after the first.

Gomez's 'mate' who was shouting at the camera wants to have a word with himself - if I watched a friend of mine taking uncontested shots like Michael wa taking at the end, I'd've been screaming at the ref to stop the fight.

Gomez pretty unhappy in the post-fight interview. Thinks it was the first sign of trouble he had been in.

"Vann is a shocking a referee, well he's a good referee but shouldn't have stopped it"

To be fair Gomez was very hyped up indeed....

I love these British title fights in local leisure centres, squash courts for changing rooms!

Fantastic fight, well done to Carl Johanesson - I was very surprised at his composure and resistance there. I didn't know how to call the fight, but after the 1st I thought it was going to be Johannesson's fight. Gomez hit him with some crisp uppercuts but, unlike vs Kirakovsyan, Carl looked unhurt and composed throughout.

I don't want to be critical of such an experienced fighter, but I do wonder if Gomez over done it with the warm up/psyching up pre fight. He looked ELECTRIC on the pads in the sky shots, a different class to Johannesson (who to be fair fights better than he looks on the pads). However, even though he had a good first round - he didn't look as quick. and he tired quite quickly. Just wondering if he over done it.

I wish Gomez would retire now, personally think prime for prime Gomez would have won no problems - but Gomez is not at his prime.... but still who would have thought 12 months ago he would have been in a possible fight of the year for the British title at Super Featherweight.

Terrific scrap, one of the fights of the year. Gomez was better than I ever imagined, how he took some of those shots around the 4th I don't know.

Carl looked slow as hell in the first, his confidence seemed gone, but he seemed to grow mentaly stronger as he realised he could stay with Gomez. And that was all he needed. That plus a hundred right hands.

Good stopage by Vann, I'd like to see Gomez' screaming mate at the end take even one of those shots.

What a brilliant call by Frank Maloney: yanked Carl out of the abyss and threw him in a fight he must have know he could win, rebuilt his confidence sky high, and gave the fans a class fight. Plus he trained him

A peak Gomez would have ripped Carl apart..there was no lateral movement, no head movement and his punches had no snap..he needs to retire..

The good thing is though that he went out like a warrior, a far more fitting epitath than Mcdonagh..

Oh, Gary Thornhill would have beaten Carl aswell.....

Gomez landed some good uppercuts, but never got chance to land his best shot, the left hook. Like the way Johanneson kept his right glove pretty much glued to his cheek ready for that.

Good undercard fight between Fewkes and Reid - Have to say, can't say I was impressed with Fewkes this time as I was vs Tontchev. I think had it been promoted by Reid's team a draw wouldn't have been out of the question. I personally thought Glyn Rhodes was a little too cool in the corner... he seemed more confident of the verdict than Fewkes. I just would have liked to have seen saying stuff like "got to make the rounds certain" etc - cause it was one of those type of fight which could be open to a different interpretation. I thought it was 5-3 Fewkes, but could have easily been 4-4.

Yes I think he would've blasted out Carl at his peak. Trouble is, what the hell is Gomez going to do when he retires? Estate agent?

He says in Terry's interview that he has to exhaust himself during the day, so he does'nt get in trouble in the evenings...what a nutter

We all know Mikes a dodgy one when hes not fighting...just hope the story has a happy ending, though im not too convinced it will... :(

couple good points there - firstly , yeah , the bloke at the end or "mate" of Gomez, probably the same kins of "mate" Mike Tyson was renowned for having so many of.
I am trying really hard to measure my words talking about this man. Mike was taking flush shots on a regular basis...end of.
The stoppage was ok, apart from the fact Mr Vann probably felt he should have stopped it the first time. Basically if u ask someone with the pride/ego of Gomez to " walk forward" they ain't gonna say no mate. Gomez was obviously done in.
Carl's follow up shot was not exactly a haymaker and Vann was straight there.....he knew.

I think there's been a fight already this year that outstrips that by some distance, entertaining as it was while it lasted.

as an aside try spelling haymaker without putting an "e" in by mistake - it's impossible - like Davis Haye has copyrighted the bastard or something.

Thought It was going be a mismatch considering how Gomez looked against journymen on his comeback but was wondering how Carl's confidence was going to be like.

Has Carl Johanneson won his longsdale belt outright now? If so the difficult question is what next, he has proved all he can at domestic level has fallen short at european level he is 29 if he does win in decembre vs Mitchall then what?

Seems odd to wonder where a firm british title holder can go but for me it realy is a difficult question?

I'm sure plenty of people would have beaten him. Give the lad some credit.
