Jackie Tonawanda
Jackie Tonawanda
I was watching a tape of the Laila Ali-Jacqui Frazier fight last night and they interviewed a lady who was supposedly the pioneer of female boxing in the 70s--her name was Jackie Tonawanda. She had to fight in court for a license, and supposedly her record was 36-1 (36). I can't find her on this site, though. Were her fights unofficial, even though she had a lisense?
'page, I don't think her record appears here because , to my knowledge, none of her bouts were officially sanctioned by any legitimate athletic commission. Plus there was a lot of speculation that many of her victories were actually "works".
Also, wasn't she the female boxer that knocked out a male karate fighter in MSG during one of those big ASIAN WORLD OF MARTIAL ARTS extravaganzas that they put on there annually throughout the '70s?
Anyone else remember that?
