Froch sees Reid as stepping stone to world glory

Carl Froch sees his forthcoming British Super-Middleweight Title defence against Robin Reid as a stepping stone to a world title fight.

The Cobra defends his title for the fourth time against former world champion Reid at the Nottingham Arena on a Hennessy Sports show with title partners GoldenPalace.net on November 9. Sky Sports will televise live.

Froch  undefeated in 21 fights  hopes the WBC will make him mandatory challenger to face the winner of Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler, who fight the weekend before he does.

But Froch regards Reid as a dangerous foe, who is well experienced at world title level and is coming off an impressive points win over American Jesse Brinkley in March.

I used to watch Robs fights when I was young so I know all about him, said Carl. He is still a formidable force who is coming off an impressive win against an American fighter in The Contender so theres definitely no chance of me under-estimating him or thinking ahead to what could be a world title fight next.

The last thing a boxer loses is his power, so Rob is still dangerous despite knocking on a bit. He was always able to bang a bit, so Ive got to be careful.

As well as being able to hit hard, he is now a cute fighter because he has so much experience being a former WBC champion. Im not judging Rob on his performance against Jeff Lacy in 2005 because he didnt look switched on that night. I think there were some problems leading up to the fight and he didnt look himself. But he boxed well in his last fight and hes a threat because of his experience.

He has been in there with the likes of Calzaghe, Lacy, Sven Ottke and Henry Wharton, all the top fighters in the division in recent years. I saw him on TV last Friday and he looked in great shape.

You cant write him off  Im taking him deadly seriously and I have got to be on Reid then it will persuade the world governing body [the WBC] that I deserve my shot.

He will be another good name to have on my record and I intend to send a message out to the other top super-middleweights with this performance. I want to face the winner of Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler and I see this fight as a stepping stone to doing that.

Can't wait for this one

How good the match is depends on which Reid turns up. Will he come to win legitimately ? If yes, it could be a thriller.....or if the usual spoiling Reid comes to town, it could be a right stinker.

Excellent-looking card from Hennessy – probably the best promotional company in the UK, for me at least.

Darren Gethin will add the scalp of Adnan Amar to his record, mark my words. He has been pumped-up for this and wants to put in the same performance he did when he flattened Tyan Booth (another Ingle-trained boxer) at this venue in March.

Good to see Wellington back in town.

When was the last time Reid wasn't involved in a stinker??

I always look forward to seeing Carl fight, but I'll be glad when this one is done and out of the way though, so he can announce his presence on the World Title scene. My wait is nearly over

This is just a showcase for Carl. Reid hasn't entertained anybody since he stopped staring in those soft porn films.

Even in his prime Reid was a lethargic often boring fighter, the sooner Froch moves on from domestic fights the better

The hope, for me at least, is that Froch can show some class and do his utmost to deal with Reid's spoilings.....try and take a leaf out of Jeff Lacy's book who dealt with Reid superbly.

Matthew Barney is possibly the worse spoiler on the scene and Froch didn't handle that one too badly.

Thats the hope I'm clinging to, Froch doesn't seem very easy to spoil as he keeps his range well (or did against barney anyway)

He should win it but as people have mentioned he hits quite hard and froch can look open. For me he remains out of range with his hands down but he could get caught thats what makes it exciting particularly when one factors in Froch's lay off

As they say RR has a punchers chance and you just never know with someone who can bang - Froch is quick and agile while Reid is slow and lethargic and even if you were to discount the Cobra strike Froch would win easily on points - Cant see it going on longer than round 7 at the most but Froch has to avoid Reid connecting flush if he gets over confident.

I know Frochy had an injection in his hand after he split the knuckle capsule in his fight the month before with Henry Porras in Hollywood.

He had an ITV slot to fill for that and boxing being the dying sport couldnt chance passing it up.

I read Froch's name mentioned somewhere in regards to the proposed UK vs Mexico card on the eve of Hatton mayweather if he comes through the reid fight unscathed.

Is there any truth in it? The only possible opponent that comes to mind is Andrade but that would seem to be quite a big fight to make at short notice.

Froch nearly fought andrade already over 6 rounds on the Eastman v Hopkins undercard.

They didnt find the time to fit it in eventually.
