When we talk baseball here in the U.S.,everyone will tell you Babe Ruth was the greatest. He played a long time ago in an era that is much different today. Not many people are around who saw him play. As far as film, there are a few swings here and there. We look at his stats and they are remarkable. He is an icon.
Jack Britton,welter weight champ,remarkable stats:325 fights,fought Ted Lewis 5 times(just for the title),Benny Leonard,Mike O'Dowd,Kid Graves,Packy McFarland,Mickey Walker. Only stopped 1 time! Fought 30 years.
The only image I have of him is when Hemingway charaterized him in his great short story "50 Grand". Jack sitting in the locker room wearing his old jersey sweater and boxing shoes,a day's growth of beard looking "Irish and Tough". He was a natural welter. He could make the weight "with his shoes on"
Where does he stand with other welter champs?
