Can somebody tell me who was the trainer in Pryor's corner?

Panama Lewis...The same guy who removed padding from Luis Resto's glove before the Billy Collins fight...Went to jail for 6 yrs over that. Hes still in boxing tho...Hes an advisor for Sultan Ibragimov. At the Seminole Hard Rock a cpl yrs ago Panama collapsed at ringside during the Sam Peter-Robert Hawkins fight...Ibragimov beat Lance Whittaker before they took him to the hospital.
A lil OT: 25 yrs after Pryor-Arguello and the OB held its last UM football game. :(
I hate to see that stadium go but it really needs alot of work done to it and hopefully the Marlins can use that spot for there new stadium.
There is an article in the Miami Herald today about that fight too

But really if you see this fight again, Arguello got hit by an unintentional clash of heads. After that clash of heads in the 14th round, it seemed that it dazed him and if you look closely, Arguello did not throw a single punch after that. He got hit by 6 unanswered punches before the stoppage took place on the ropes.
:( :( :(

Spare your sympathy for Wilfred Benitez, Elmer. The poor guy was victim to a horrific headclash (accidental) with Ray Leonard, but Leonard came out OK, while Benitez bled from the forehead for the remainder of the night. There was never a rematch.
I honestly think Benitez was such a fighter the result could have been different without that nasty cut which was there for most of the bout.

And Barry Bonds didn't know that he was given steroids. His head just started to grow for no reason.Decagon wrote:No. You are wrong. Maybe Lewis was just saying that to make Pryor think something was in the bottle. Or it could have been spiked with cocaine.buckshot wrote:When you watch the replay you can hear Lewis ask for a special water bottle that he "mixed". At the time you weren't alound to drink anything but water in the corner so what the hell did he "mix"?
Now, Larry Holmes asking for his "blue bottle" during matches, that's a lot more suspicious.

Jet fuel is not approved for NASCAR OR pro boxing.
And trust me....there are many substances that will get you up and away in less than 60 seconds especially factoring in he had an empty stomach and his metabolism was racing based on what he was doing at the time he ingested the contents of that bottle.
So it is at least entirely possible that he could have been turbo charged.
But I advise caution with any derrogatory assumptions, as we are talking about a team who's credentials for stalwart trustworthiness is beyond reproach, bordering on pius, angelic, and puritanical in the ways of intent, purpose AND action.

of course there is some stimulants to wake you up. in 1 minute. first panama lewis told reporters it was tap water with mineral water. and pryors cutman told the reporters was peppermint liqueur. still ilegal for ring rules. but yes it is interesting to see pryor. at the end of round 13th he walked to his corner slowly and check the first 10 seconds he has his mouth open and looked very tired. he was a great fighter. but for sure something was in that bottle. and he did not drink only that time he was giving that stimulant for the whole fight checked in between rounds 2 and 3.dempseyfire wrote:No known substance can race through the bloodstream quickly enough to revive a tired fighter within 60 seconds . . it was purely psychological.
