Barry! This is very interesting. I may rate The Ring number one for start up boxing statistics, though I'm aware of that it's not 100% trustworthy. They stubbornly kept calling the greatest by the name Cassius Clay til the late 70's. Beeing a european, it's a bit limited to get true informations about american boxers records. But basicly The Ring has a structure to set up a pattern for record entries. Some legendary boxers becomes mythological in their files, like f.ex. Jack Renault, and that's the glory of this game. BoxRec may by now be established as the greatest official record archive and ambitions to keep it as clean as possible opens the specific debates at the forum. It's amazing how many people with different knowledge contributes to this part of boxing history. As time goes by, what may be incorrect today, will be handled by experts and records will wind up as perfect as possible.
My flashes at the forum is to get answeres to things that puzzles me, and I do admit I get in contact with people who knows a lot more than I do and it satisfies me. I agree with most of the facts that are presented to me. My base is a home office that started 45 years ago, fascinated by boxers careers and destinies. I may be a freak in this but every new name that appears gives me a thrill to continue my purpose to add what I've got to the archive, carefully though.
As for Jack Renault, I leave it to experts like you, with a pleasure to see the version you've got.
What I got from my forum query about the canadian leads me to another curiousity for the "Tiger" Jack Renault! Who was he? It's specially interesting as he boxed with the swede, John Andersson. Hopefully, new entries for his record will appear by and by, with this incredible activity you can watch every day at the "latest entries" part of BoxRec. I'm totally addicted to this.
Thanks a lot Barry!
