Eight more fighters have been elected to the Boxrec Hall of Fame. Panama Al Brown,Charley Burley,Marcel Cerdan,Jake LaMotta,Reuben Olivares,Carlos Ortiz,Dick Tiger, and Carlos Zarate were all elected.

14 members voted. 10 votes were needed for election.
Burley,Cerdan,and Olivares all received 11 votes.
Brown,LaMotta,Ortiz,Tiger, and Zarate all received 10 votes.

About time Panama Al Brown got in. Good to see Carlos Ortiz, Cerdan and Zarate make it as well, BUT Packey McFarland and Kid Chocolate come up short again ! Oh well, in the next round I think I may be campaigning for Memphis Pal Moore, who amazingly isn't in the IBHOF.

I'll add to Seamus' post and say that Dixon adn Loughran have been on the cusp for too long now.

Not to forget Carmen Basilio. He fell short by one vote in round 3.

The early rounds of HOF voting were good fun and interesting, but now that most obvious superstars have been voted in, the voting rounds have taken on a different dynamic and the results are not easy to interpret.

I'm curious Pundit. Since you think so highly of Basilio, who already elected is less deserving ?

I can think of 3 Heavyweights, who I'd put Basilio above.

Glad Olivares and Burley got in disappointed that Barbados Joe Walcott didn't make he should be there by now.

Just have a few comments.

It was nice to see more people voting this time. Of course it would also be nice to see more the regulars on the forum vote. Even though most of the guys that you vote for on a given ballot won't make it, it's still pretty fun.

The fighters that were voted in this past election (#7) were certainly worthy. They all had decent support in earlier rounds, so none were huge surprises.
Tommy Lougran and Kid Chocolate just missed it again. It's the 2nd time in a row that Loughran missed it by one vote, and the 4th time in a row that Kid Chocolate missed it by one vote.

Usually when someone comes close in one election, he will eventually make it again soon, but you never know.
I looked back at the 3rd election that we did. Michael Spinks and Aaron Pryior missed by one vote! Neither have come that close again. On the other hand, Lou Ambers had only 3 votes out 17 in the 3rd election. However, he got elected in the 4th election!

It seems that one variable is that we don't know is if the people that aren't voting for a particular fighter are seriously considering that person the next time or not. For example, some people feel very strongly that Spinks, Packy McFarland, and John L Sullivan should make it and they always get some votes but not enough. It seems that the people who haven't been voting for these guys don't have them on their radar because they haven't been voting for them in subsequent rounds.

Personally, I think that Michael Spinks has been the most overlooked fighter that hasn't made it. I have been voting for him since the very first round. Besides Fighting Harada, he is the only fighter who you can seriously argue was the best fighter of one of the 8 major weight classes who hasn't made it yet. I find it mind boggling that people continue to vote for 25 guys ahead of Spinks.

There has been some comments of the lack of 19th century fighters elected yet. After 7 elections, I think those comments are becoming more valid.

49 fighters have now been elected. I believe only 3 fought much before the 1900 (Fitsimmons,Jeffries, and McGovern) and even they had a significant part of there career after 1900.
I know a lot of people either don't have much respect for fighters from that long ago or just aren't familiar with them. However, the truly great fighters from the 1880's and 1890's like Tommy Ryan, Nonpariel Jack Dempsey, John L. Sullivan and George Dixon should be strongly considered the next time that we vote.

Overall, the voting has been pretty good. There hasn't been a ridiculaus amount of heavyweights voted in. In fact, none made it this last round. There have also been fighters from several countries voted in.

Outside of the 1880's and 1890's, there has been atleast decent representation from all of the other eras.
