Michael Moorer at light heavyweight?

Post by Syntax Error »

How would Moorer have done against the greats of the LHW division?

He only stayed there for a couple of years, but whilst there he looked like a killer.

He jumped up to HW & beat Holyfield (which was a great feat), but he looked podgy at HW & I don't think the division really suited him.

His power was immense (although he never carried it to HW) & judging by his relative success at HW, it led me to think that he might have been on of the LHW greats had he stayed there.

Could he have lived with Spinks, Moore, Foster, Muhammad etc?

M.Moorer was a beast at LHW. He held the WBO title for some time.....made a good number of defenses....

Two diferent type of fighters....at LHW he was more seek and destory....But his chin and stamina would have always caused him problems Vs some of the all time great LHWs...

Michael Moorer was definitely a monster at 175.

I think he would have had a good shot at being an ATG in the division.

He always said that it killed him to get down to 175, so it was inevitable that he would have moved up at some point.

I'm surprised he didn't dip his toes in the cruiserweight division on his way up, as like you say, he did look a little bloated at heavy.

Didn't Moorer stop briefly at Cruiser? Maybe I'm not recalling that correctly but I thought he had a short stint there.

In any event, I am one of those people (something of a minority) who believes Moorer could mix it with the best 175lbers in history. Who he would beat amongst the greats is another matter, but from what I saw of him as a Light-Heavy, he wasn't just a killer puncher (much as he was lethal) but had that quality speed & movement as well. I might have him on the fringe of the top ten all-time, or top fifteen. I thought he was that good.
