Dear friends,
Still in my work for an article of revolution made by BBBoCY in history of past titles, I contacted Ray Piniger for get his book about Australian history of boxing, but he did not answer. Now, my deadline expires 1 February. So, I ask help to somebody who got that book. Id est, if he kindly supplies me some information about following matches :
Lightweight
24 January 1890, Sydney
Jim Burge (A) W 22 Sam Baxter (E)
Middleweight
30 August 1887, London
"Chesterfield" Goode (E) W 15 Tom Lees (A)
Heavyweight
11 November 1889, London
Peter Jackson (A) W dsq 2 Jem Smith (E)
3 March 1903, Sydney
Billy McColl (A) W rsc 6 Dan Creedon (NZ)
7 November 1906, Melbourne
Bill Squires (A) KO 1 Bill Smith (A)
25 October 1909, Melbourne
Bill Lang (A) KO 20 Bill Squires
All these bouts were inserted in BBBoCY firstly in 1998 edition, when the lineage of British Empire/Commonwealth was upsetted and backdated from 1908 to 1887. What I would like to know : which are comments, reports and words used by Piniger relating to these bouts and in general to BBBoCY historiographical reform, namely does he accept that backdating ? Does he enlist his own lineage of BE and, if yes, are there differences with which of BBBoCY ?
Of course, every help will be duly acknowledged, just like every hint, critical or not, related to other matches for BE enlisted in BBBoCY 1998 for first time, but BEFORE 1908 (older date of official start).
Thank you very much in advance
Kindest regards
Gherardo Bonini
