Cheers mate,

Brook doesn't seem to be having much luck with opponents, Doherty pulled out twice with injury, then the young fight didn't hapen not sure why, and now this one.

This one will happen, just not on Dec 8th. Its been mandated by the board as an eliminator for the british title (hasnt it?) and therefor it'll take place at a slighty later date. I think Mark will probably still fight on Dec8th, jsut not in a 12 round title eliminator. more likely a 6 round "tune up" - and not with the sort of opponent his last stay busy fight was!! That Frenchie was one touch SOB, just dropped an SD to Klose too.

Where do you get your information and facts from? It's Bullshit.

allegedly won a purse offer for MT to fight Kell Brook on 8th December in Bolton and that is where the fight will take place.

If Thompson wasn't fit or even well then he should have pulled out or told the Board before the purse offer was won. Anyway, if he's unfit and not ready how on earth is he going to fight a 'tune up' on 8th December elsewhere and get permission from either the Board or FW. Even if the date was put back he can't fight for 28 day's before anyway.

Bottom line is....If Thompson doesn't fight on 8th December then he is out of the final eliminator and he will be automatically barred from the British title for 12 months as per the rules.

His Manager has already tried to have it postponed for the reasons you state but his plea was dismissed by the Board so any future 'Sicky' will fall on deaf ears and Kell Brook will become the Mandatory contender by default.

Warren and Brook control this situation as their side won the purse bid by a £5k margin. Warren will do what's best for his fighter Kell Brook which is a shame for Thompson, who seems like a straight and decent kid, but the facts are the facts and the rules are the rules, so if his people wanted to give him more time and thus have control of the situation, then they should have won the purse offer...they didn't and December 8 is the date.

They were aware of the rules and possibility of the fight being anytime after a 21 day window following the purse offer and were notified of this fact way back in October when the fight was first put out.

The minimum notice he has had was 60 days and only last night he collected an award and accolade for taking a '12 round title fight against a more acomplished fighter than Kell Brook, at weight, with just 7 days notice."

"It's no big deal, I'm alway's fit because I'm a fighter and it's what I do. this fight was an opportunity to get a title and some TV exposure" said Thompson to his credit.

Just tried to give the best info I had... Im not a spokesperson for any promtional outfit, so just gave what info I had. I thought Mark had missed 2 or 3 weeks training and therefor had not trained for a 12 rounder.

Did anyone else bid for the fight, or just SN?

If you ask me SN should get they're facts right. They announced Kell was fighting Gary Young in Edinburgh on Dec 15th and I nearly bought tickets for Edinburgh. Then they changed it to the Bolton bill! talk about misleading the fans and I bet I wouldnt have gotten a refund.

Emma ,

Just to confirm that Mark Thompson will be boxing a 6 rnd contest in Wigan on the 8th December 2007. Mark has not been in the gym long since a hard fight last time out and a bout of flue , he would not be fit to contest a 12round fight on this date.

What Boxingchat says in the main is corect , but he does miss out certain points and also does not word things fully - such as Mark stepping in at weight last time - it was a weight above what he normally fights at.

This matter is now with the Board and we hope they see sence and let the Brook v Thompson fight happen a little further down the line as the public want to see this fight and Team Tommo are all up for it, but when he is ready and not pressured into it. .

The problem with us is the date and not the fight .The date problem was caused by allegedly an alie of allegedly turning out allegedly not to be , we were certainly trying to work with them to sort the situation out and look what rewards we got, another lesson in trust learned.

Anyhow , what will be ,will be and we will carry on doing our own thing .

Sorry Steve, but your post contradicts the facts.

Mark's fight with Horta was at welterweight Mark weighed 148 and Horta 149. Until today Mark was listed as a light middleweight on britishboxing.net, a quick change that.

In none title bouts, Mark usually fights at or above 150, so your point that his last fight i.e. with Horta, is a weight above what he normally fights at is clearly incorrect.

On the other hand, if Mark has had a recent bout of flu one does have some sympathy but it does seem strange that he is fit enough to fight a six rounder on the 8th.

Clearly no fight has yet been arranged and nothing is, or has been published on any of the available schedules.

As this is not the first time that Brook has been 'stood up' by an opponent you must have some sympathy with both Brook and SN, it is getting beyond a joke now.

Must eb abig difference between fighting a 6 rounder against a journeyman level fighter, i mean proper journeyman (not like that Horta), and a 12 round championship fight though. Surely a couple of weeks out the gym with flu / a cold would make all the difference, wouldnt it?

Couldn't agree more, BUT, given that Mark has been pretty active lately, one would expect, in football parlance, that he is 'match fit'.

Kell, on the other hand, has only had one fight since April and had to recover from being attacked and stabbed twice, so, compared to Mark's build up to the proposed fight, I would suggest that Kell is the more disadvantaged of the two. As you will be aware, no amount of training and sparring in the gym can compensate for lack of ring experience.

Rumpole,

Mark is a Welterweight . the fight myself and Boxingchat refer to was his fight with Vuma that was made at Light- Middleweight .

I do not feel sympathy for Kell as he has been down to fight on the December 15th show against Gary Young and Mark has always been down to do a 6 rounder on our December 8th show in Wigan. It was because of this we were happy to help them make a fight for the title on December 15th between Kell and McKyntyre - it was nothing to do with us that this not happen.

Their failure to make the title fight should not punish Mark and I would confirm that we are happy to do the fight when Mark is fit for a 12 round fight which is a masssive difference betweena 6 round one.

Trust helps clears our side.

I might just be cynical but does Oliver Harrison not train Mark Thompson?

Boxingchat really does seem desperate for the Brook - Thompson fight to go ahead.

Is that becuase by coincidence if it did it might ensure a time clash between that fight and the Jamie Moore fight in Wigan so that aside from the Khan fight Harrison would also have to worry about the Thompson one.

Thanks Steve, very good of you you throw some light onto behind the scenes issues that the average 'joe' doesn't get to hear about.

Personally, I feel sorry for both boxers who as usual, are not to blame for the political goings on over which they have no control. Unlike you though, I do have sympathy for both Kell and Mark, they have little or no control over the fixtures made on their behalf.

Good luck to both lads, it should be a good scrap if, and when, it is ever made.

Thought Id just hijack this thread to say that for those of you who didn;t know; Mark Thompson won the sportsmanship award at Monday night's British Boxing Board of Control Awards Dinner. The thrilling British light-middleweight title bout between Jamie Moore and Matthew Macklin was also named contest of the year.

He missed training because of it, he's not ill with it now. He got the award for taking the Vuma fight at such short notice I believe.

Sorry Steve but I am still at a loss to understand your argument.

You reply to my query by stating that it was not the Horta fight you were referring to as being the "hard fight" but the Vuma fight which was in July, some 5 months before the scheduled fight with Kell.

The question is, if Mark is not yet recovered from the Vuma fight, which I find difficult to believe, what the heck was he doing fighting Vuma who is, arguably, as tough an opponent as Kell Brook?

I do accept that if Mark is recovering from a bout of flu, depending upon the severity it can cause problems but the hard fight argument simply doesn't stand up.
