Gary Lockett is now WBO No1 contender, so how much closer is he to getting a title shot?
I can't see Pavlik racing to face him, for purely financial reasons.

So will the WBO force a mandatory? i think not

He deserves one. I'm speaking to him later this week for BBN so I'll post a link on here.....

How on earth has Lockett found himself in the number 1 slot ???? ..... oh yeah, he's SN which means he won't get judged by the WBO on who he has beaten.

Yeah will be good to hear what he thinks, i don't think that Lockett really deserves to be rated No1, but would love to see him get a shot at Pavlik, Gary has a good punch and chin. Although Lockett would start a very big underdog, Pavlik can be hit and hurt, so Gary would stand a chance.

Duddy's WBO No 2.

Lockett would beat Duddy

He's been in an around that position for ages, he's lost once and is a hell of a lot better than John Duddy for example, who was being touted for Pavlik a few weeks back.

Duddy brings dollars, Lockett would at least pose a threat.

I interviewed Gary about 7/8 months ago and there was talk of a shot at Taylor, which obviously didn't happen.

When Duddy retires Eastman I will be dishing out the humble pie

Humble pie? Eastman's shot, otherwise It would be another road sweeper for Duddy.

Eastman was overrated anyway.

Can you ask Gary if he was offered the Abraham fight on the 8th of December, only i heard the offer was in the region on £50,000 , and was turned down by SN. So Elcock took the title shot instead.

Well considering that we are talking up Elcocks win against Eastman then I would hardly say he was shot...there is a differance between being shot and being past your best..although Howard didnt look great against Ashira and Williams he never looked in danger of losing did he??

Pavlik and Lockett are very similar - personally think Lockett is a poor man's Pavlik, but I was dissapointed in Kelly vs Taylor.

Difference in my opinion is Elcock went up against an Eastman who had only lost in world class company and Duddy is taking him on only now he has lost to Elcock. I may be wrong but if Elcock v Eastman hadn't happened, there is no way Duddy would be fighting him

Someone said on here that the Duddy camp have got very brave indeed after Elcock outboxed Eastman...I would agree, no way is Howard shot, I think they have taken a punt on a fringe world class fighter who is probably quite cheap after his recent loss!!

Either way it will be the same Eastman who showed up against Elcock..maybe even better as he may be highly motivated for this one....

No he would not, he'd get absolutely pulverized. Gary Lockett is a domestic level operator.

After watching my copies of Lockett-Tsarenko 1 and 2 I think Lockett would stand a very good chance of being taken out on a stretcher if he fought Pavlik!!!

He's got to number 1 because the WBO has a long and proud tradition of ranking average British fighters way higher than they should be ranked due to their friendliness with certain promoters who like to con the public into thinking that they are watching a world title fight.

Can you ask him when he's due to fight again? He's only had one fight this year and been fairly inactive over the last few years. Surely this period of inactivty won't do him any good? its not like when he does fight that he fights ranked contenders.

the WBO is also strangely snotty about ranking fighters who are ranked by other organisations.

Was it already in the books that Collins and Nelson were going to retire, giving Joe and Macaroni easier fights? If not, let's just say, God knows Collins and Johnny were old and creaky enough, weren't they. They couldn't have been pitted in any later vs those 2, that's for sure.


FW fighters treat belts like toilets. They won't go for it unless the cubicle has been vacated. Then they flush the belt down the boghole.

but it seemed Rees was a "gimme" opponent to keep M'Baye in the title. Which backfired shockingly.
