Any Brits Cheering For Mayweather?
Someone asked the question over in Current Scene Forum, if any Americans were cheering for Hatton, and there was a fair amount. I have a feeling Brits cheering for Mayweather, as there are fewer truelly World Class British Boxers to back, and Hatton is generally a more likeable fellow than Mayweather.
Still, any Brits backing Floyd?
If so is it out of some dislike for Ricky or preference toward Floyd?

I suspect the only people wanting to Hatton to lose are people who have something agaisnt him, maybe some Witter fans.
I don't agree with this statement. i believe there are many brits cheering for mayweather, not because they have something against him or because they are 'unpatriotic.' but because they admire and enjoy mayweathers style of boxing. The sort of talent that only comes round every 10, 15, 20 years and they don't want to see him lose.
If we were to be honest floyd is light years ahead of ricky in allround boxing ability and if it was any one else in the ring with him, you'd say done deal. But it's ricky's heart and aggression that makes this fight interesting for me.
It's still 80-20 in floyd's favour for me, and if it was anyone eise in the ring with floyd with the same level of boxing ability as hatton ( which is v.good don't get me wrong) i'd give it 99-1. The 1 being that anything can happen in boxing.

Get 100 people at random watching then fight from England, I'd take odds on that everyone is cheering for Hatton, maybe even 1000 at random.jimmy the gent wrote:HairyBoxe24 wrote:Think you nailed it, Americans have more to choose from.. other countries seem to stick with thier fighters no matter what.

Unfortuneatley the 1000 can't get in there with him.HairyBoxe24 wrote:Get 100 people at random watching then fight from England, I'd take odds on that everyone is cheering for Hatton, maybe even 1000 at random.jimmy the gent wrote:HairyBoxe24 wrote:Think you nailed it, Americans have more to choose from.. other countries seem to stick with thier fighters no matter what.

To answer the Title of the thread.
No chance in this world will I be cheering for Floyd Mayweather to win - I will screaming for a Ricky victory.
Problem is - I just don't see it happening and see Mayweather winning by no later than the 7th.
I hope I am wrong the last time I predicted against Hatton it was the KT fight - lets hope I am wrong again this time.
Have to say though Mayweather is truly exceptional in every department -boxing fans are deluding themselves if they truly believe he has a weakness.
If Hatton wins - it will be the greatest victory by any British Boxer in any ring in whatever country!!!
So with all that said that is why my mad theory is - Ricky is bloody good - but not that good.

Must be Spud. After all, now him and his FA buddies have learned the Hatton lesson the hard way, he has changed his tune. Perhaps he is bitter that he lost out on the chance of carrying the camps luggage through McCarran Airport again and will have to make do with watching it on TV providing he can stump up the £15 to pay for it.
Surely he can find £15 from all the money Hatton is still owed 'allegedly' by FA.

You obviously believe everything the newspapers tell you about Mayweather. Half these writers have probably never seen him box, or saw him against DLH and didnt even understand what they were watching.jimmy the gent wrote: I don't agree with this statement. i believe there are many brits cheering for mayweather, not because they have something against him or because they are 'unpatriotic.' but because they admire and enjoy mayweathers style of boxing. .
He is nowhere near that good & thats why i like Hattons chances so much. DLH gave him the win whereas Hatton ripped it from Tszyu.
No one who is not a complete pudendum can possibly root for such an arrogant, unlikeable money flashing unabashed pudendum liek Mayweather unless they yearn to be like him themselves (and religiously listen to gangsta rap on their ipod and worship that culture)

Your last paragrapgh says it all - you are rooting for Hatton purely on a personality thing which is understandble - to be honest so am I.overhand_right wrote:You obviously believe everything the newspapers tell you about Mayweather. However when you think purely boxing - that is when you have to say Floyd Mayweather is an overwhelming favourite.

Again your dislike for the man is clouding your judgement who has the tools to win the fight.overhand_right wrote:I also find Hattons value for money style of fighting far more enjoyable than Mayweathers 'roll & slap' to 12 rds me & HBO say im great so the newspapers follow suit to fill the 'greatness' void the sport has nowadays hype job bollocks.

you are using a generalisation that anyone that listens to gangsta rap must want floyd to win. so does that mean that it's only people that like to drink themselves silly and play darts want ricky to win? no it doesn't. the majority of people want hatton to win 'cos they feel that floyd is to flashy and arrogant, and its not based on the skill of the fighter, but rather what the fighter stands for. I'm of the opinion if a fighter works as hard as floyd does for his money and puts his life on the line then he can do what ever he likes with the money he gets. Why? because he earned it. Besides it would be boring if all these boxers had the same personality as each other. Love floyd or hate him, you will have an opinion, and that could only be good for the sport of boxing.overhand_right wrote:You obviously believe everything the newspapers tell you about Mayweather. Now the reason many people want ricky to win is because they prefer his personality( cause lets face it he is in no way a better boxer than floyd). They feel that they can relate more to his way of life. The life of many brits living in britain. Fact is he is a multi millionaire, therefore is nothing like the average brit. I don't associate with any of these fella's way of life, 'cos i'm not flashy and i certainly would not be drinking in some average pub, everyday of my life if i had the money these boys have. i enjoy both these guys personality, i see good things in both. I like to be objective when i draw up an opinion. My point is, i like both these boxers purely based on boxing ability as that is the only way (as a professional boxer) that i can truly relate to them.
May the best man win. If it's ricky i will be happy for him as i have followed his career from his second fight and it would be a great ending to a truly great journey. If floyd were to win, then it would be expected. And ricky would still go down as an excellent fighter. just floyd would be legendary.

Yes I was Chambers - and if I were really honest my dislike for Hatton has never been there but his promoter at the time is shall we say not on my christmas card list -Chambers2 wrote:Were you saying the same when he fought Kostya?Spud wrote:Your last paragrapgh says it all - you are rooting for Hatton purely on a personality thing which is understandble - to be honest so am I.overhand_right wrote: You obviously believe everything the newspapers tell you about Mayweather. But there again to be honest - even with my prejudices I still didn't give Hatton much of a chance
So this time around - and yep my prejudices come to the fore again and even with them and desperately wanting Ricky to win because I actually like the bloke he did a lot for my son and that means everything to me -but with that said - I just can't see it happening for Ricky.
For Hatton to win the fight he has to boss it from start to finish - against the pound for pound best fighter in the world.
Ricky is a fine individual who I like a lot as a person - it is certain other people I justfiably do not like - but even with my thoughts I want Ricky to win - ABSOLUTELY!!!

,Im cheering for Mayweather and im British, why?
Because hes one of my favourite fighters and Ricky Hatton isn't....
Nationality doesnt come into it for me.
Same for me. Mayweather's the best boxer of his generation, one in a million.
I'm sick of people saying his style is boring as well. He's been in some great fights. Just the last two he's fought guys that are significantly heavier than him. He was hardly gonna stand toe to toe with them. The fights against Judah, Corrales and Gatti were all entertaining and he didn't run from them.

I'm a big Mayweather and I'm a big fan of excellent skill, defense, technique and athletiscism. Floyd embodies all of these attributes in a way Ricky Hatton never will. In fact he embodies those attributes in a way no one else in the sport does bar none.
If Hatton wins it will be a victory of brute strength over sublime skill, which doesn't appeal to me. Hence I support Mayweather.
I think both are nice lads if you really look at them as people so good luck to both.
I wonder if everyone who dislikes Floyd dislikes Sugar Ray Robinson and Monzon with as much venom as they certainly weren't particularly nice characters to say the least

Although I'd be happy for Hatton and british boxing if he won(I was chuffed to bits for him when Kosta didnt come off his stool) I want Mayweather to win because like Phenomal Nutrition said, I consider Mayweather the superior boxer. All this stuff i hear about Mayweather being boring - I dont know where it comes from because I really enjoy Mayweather's fights and I thought for example his fight with Corley was pretty exciting. On the other hand, whilst as a spectacle Hatton-Tszyu was exciting as a boxing match I fought it very frustrating to watch as there was so much clinching. I suppose its what style you prefer watching as well - I really enjoy scientific boxers in todays world where if you are good enough but you are not considered a slugger/knockout artist or exciting you wont get the opportunities. Also, after all that I have a bet on Mayweather!
