has hatton really been ducking witter?
a lot of people think hatton has ducked witter but surely its a case of witter getting to the level hatton is at before this fight could be made i mean you cant just fight everyone who calls your name out
Its hard to say there was a lot of time when the two of them were at the same level and Witter wanted the fight and hatton took on opponents who were demonstrably worse than witter (Mike "No Joke" Stewart comes to mind) Now I think there carriers have taken different trajectories, I still think that if they fought Witter would give him hell and possibly win.

I still am not sure that Hatton wants the fight he has said he won't fight witter cos he doesn't want to give him the pay day but its probbably cos he wouldn't look good and would take some nasty knocks.hamsterpoo wrote:yeah i think if witter wins a few more big fights he and hatton might get it on, it would be a huge fight between 2 british fighters the biggest since benn eubank id say

i agree he woud take shots and witter skill wise is a better boxing but i dont think hattons scared of him i dont think hattons scared of anyone or he wouldnt be fighting mayweather saturday but witter has power which mayweather doesnt so im sure it would be exciting maybe more so then the fight saturday would be nice to see it happen but like you i cant see it maybe for different reasons tho
The risk reward ratio is rather grater for Witter, if he loses this he has lost to the best fighter in the world, if he loses to witter he has lost to some B fighter who got beat by Judah and he has been calling shit for weekshamsterpoo wrote:i agree he woud take shots and witter skill wise is a better boxing but i dont think hattons scared of him i dont think hattons scared of anyone or he wouldnt be fighting mayweather saturday but witter has power which mayweather doesnt so im sure it would be exciting maybe more so then the fight saturday would be nice to see it happen but like you i cant see it maybe for different reasons tho

A bit harsh calling witter a b fighter. yes he lost to judah but that was at a time when judah was one of the best P4P boxetrs in the world at the time and he took it with like five days notice. I thought he did petty well considering the circumstabnce, lasting twelve rounds whilst managing to also nick a couple of rounds on the way.josh fg wrote:The risk reward ratio is rather grater for Witter, if he loses this he has lost to the best fighter in the world, if he loses to witter he has lost to some B fighter who got beat by Judah and he has been calling shit for weekshamsterpoo wrote:i agree he woud take shots and witter skill wise is a better boxing but i dont think hattons scared of him i dont think hattons scared of anyone or he wouldnt be fighting mayweather saturday but witter has power which mayweather doesnt so im sure it would be exciting maybe more so then the fight saturday would be nice to see it happen but like you i cant see it maybe for different reasons tho
remember, he is a fighter that is never going to get the same opportunities that hatton got at that time of his career, therefore had to take the fight for the sake of his career. If they offered that fight to hatton at five days notice at that stage of his career, do you think that they would have taken it? No. Why, because he would have also lost.
i remember witter calling hatton out at the post fight interview, after the thaxton fight, seven years ago. That's when the fight should have taken place, to see who was the best in Britain at the time, but warren obviously favoured hatton and didn't want to take the risk. That fight will never take place now.

That's a very good post by the way.
Personally I don't think Hatton ever had any intention of boxing Witter whilst he was still "live"......he's a few yr older than Hatton don't forget (2 or 3 I think)
I was talking about public perception not about how I think WItter is, I like Witter but most people haven't heard of him or if they have they have seen hatton saying he is shit.jimmy the gent wrote:A bit harsh calling witter a b fighter. yes he lost to judah but that was at a time when judah was one of the best P4P boxetrs in the world at the time and he took it with like five days notice. Only Benn and Eubank were hugely popular larger than life figures whereas Witter cant draw flies even if he coated himself in feces.hamsterpoo wrote:yeah i think if witter wins a few more big fights he and hatton might get it on, it would be a huge fight between 2 british fighters the biggest since benn eubank id say
What did Witter do exactly? Kayo Vivian Harris in 7? Didn't Carlos Maussa already do that? And who chinned Massa? Oh yeah-- Hatton.

Those tracers are rarely meaningful Ovewrhand, as you well know.
Witter is a credible contender in Hatton's preferred division. To have not faced him is because he knows his style would be awkward and he's a dangerous opponent for low reward in victory.
I just wish Hatton would say that.
I'd have more respect for him. Of course, beating up Floyd will all but vanquish Junior's theory that he could beat Hatton with movement.

Not neccesarily as Witter could argue he is more awkwed and has a bigger dig. However Mayweather has stamina and more experiance and is better at tucking up behind the sholder. Styles fights etc.DavidPayne wrote:Those tracers are rarely meaningful Ovewrhand, as you well know.

Witter would have to stop Hatton to beat him IMO. Witters movement and power would cause Hatton plenty of problems, not saying he wins, but it would be a very interesting fight for the first half at least. I won't resign myself to the fact that this fight is not going to happen until both boxers have been retired for a decade

I think in the early days they were kept apart to give them both a chance of becomming successful at LW - Either one could have caused a setback for the others career - Once Hatton was fighting in the big league a domestic dustup with Witter was well out of the question and still is - If Hatton beats Mayweather they will NEVER get it on - If he loses then Maybe, but dont bank on it - Hatton wouldnt lose too much credibility and theres a big payday with DLH win or lose that looks likely to come off - My bet is Hatton/Witter will be on the same bill as Haye/Macca and Calzaghe/Froch.
I'm looking forward to that bill, Waylon.
