How do the ratings work?

Post by armstrong »

The ratings are computer generated, allowing no bias due to opinion and in general I think they are very good. I thought that Ricardo Mayorga deserved to be top Welter after beating Vernon Forrest, but his record is unspectacular and can understand his relatively low rating.

However I noticed that Lonnie Bradley is top-ten rated in the Super-Middles and Hector Camacho is 3rd at Middle! He hasn't faced a legitimate fighter since De La Hoya used him for target practice in 97.

Doesn't/shouldn't the ratings take inactivity in account?

Armstrong,

Browse through the forum, we have had plenty of discussions on the various rating systems, BoxRec, WCOB, IBO, Blue's merit and level system, Computerrank's contest etc.
The issue you arise with Camacho and Bradley is why I am no fan of BoxRec ratings. You could also wonder why Larry Holmes isn't ranked (he fought last July). Because in this system he 'd most likely be in the top 3!

Some editors have actually acknowledged here on the forum they are just for fun.

The inactivity issue is in my opinion by far best dealt with in the monthly WCOB ranking system.
