Absolutely magnificent.

Quite right and fitting. We are presiding over the best period in British boxing that I can remember. The baton is now being passed over to Haye, Khan, Froch etc. so that wider interest in the game can reach out to those that wouldn't normally be interested and giving the sport its proper respect.

Congrats Calzaghe, and well done Hatton - his personality alone transcends, the sometimes ridiculous, earnestness of our great sport.

Surly after there own poll found two of the most popular sportsmen in the country are boxers the BBC has to reconsider its absured embargo on proffesional boxing.

Did you see the shock on Hamilton's face. He'll most likely win it a few times down the years..

Calzaghe was still a 15/1 dog on betfair too as the show started, falling right down to 3/1 just minutes before the result.

Well done Joe.

It's good to see Hatton and his old man(who had me in stitches and was genuinely moved to receive the award)get an award too.

Also, Bobby Robson getting the lifetime achievement award was pretty moving, and hugely deserved.

All in all, easily the best sports personality of the year award I have ever sat and watched(with the 85 yr old woman football coach getting the peoples award just above Billy Beck from Brompton Boxing Club another highlight
