To Ricky Hatton: Fight Junior Witter next

Post by Chambers2 »

NOW IS THE TIME!!!

Bare with me I've been on my Christmas works do. I'm pissed up, off me tits and there's no way I'm sleepng for a while.

Right this is not an anti Ricky Hatton post, I love him to bits especially after the Maywether fight. The 24/7 series has single handedly made him a ultra-megastar, he seems a top bloke as does Our Billy G.

Ricky has said he only wants to be involved in BIG fights, Billy has said that Ricky is a natural light welter and should fight there. Now is the time to fight Witter, I don't expect him to turn down a rematch with Mayweather (a slim possibility) or a fight with Cotto (very unlikely IMO), but I really dislike the DLH fight especially at 150lbs which has been mentioned. Its solely a BIG money fight, I fecking hate the 'Seniors tour' fights!

Junior Witter is the main man (avec Malignanni) at 140 now. We've been made to wait far too long for the fight, it would be a crying shame if he didn't fight Witter and it should affect his legacy IMO. Rickys gonna need a BIG fight to get him up for the occasion and the eternal Hatton-Witter history will ensure hes has his spark.

Anyway I'm sure you get the general jist of where I'm coming from (my face has fell off)

Fcuk Off :-?

Ricky lost a fight at welter against the number 1 pound for pound fighter.
Ricky holds the ring magazine belt for undisputed light welter champ.
for anyone to be called number 1 at light welter they hav to beat Ricky.
Has Junior the titter Witter earned a shot.
He beat a 72 old Demarcus Corley.
He beat a Mexican taxi driver with a Peter Buckley type record.
And he beat Vivian Harris who got knocked out by Carlos Mausa who Hatton knocked out the fight after he beat Harris.
Witter i hear is defending his wbc title in a working mens club soon.
Witter is defending his belt for 60k a fight hahahaha peanuts
Well, then. Ricky should have no problm fighting him, if what you say is right, as Ricky will get the Lions share of the purse, and Witter isnt much anyway, so no brainer for Ricky.

I wonder if Hatton see's it as eay as you do?

he doesn't suck and the Harris and Ndou fights suggest he is in fact a puncher.

The Mexican Cab Driver with a Peter Buckley type record beat Maussa before Hatton got to him.

Witter and Hatton are no1 and no2 at 140lbs, therefore they should fight. If Ricky wants another £20million to lose to Mayweather or Delahoya than fair enough.

After watching Ricky eat counter punches I think Witter would do the same to him Mayweather did and KO him. So I doubt he faces Witter and we now know why the fight never happened. Ricky has no answer for fast slick counter punchers.

Hatton has been ducking Witter for years. I believe he sees a fight with Junior as a banana skin he could not afford to slip on. It would be a shame if the match never materialised.

De la Hoya equals a beating (mainly due to being bigger, and RH seeming less effective at bigger weights).

Mayweather equals a beating. Say no more.

Witter equals a beating.

Now for the dilemma. Lose to Oscar for 20 million. Lose to Mayweather for a bit less (a fight nowhere near as marketable as the first but there's always some deluded people that'll believe Hatton has a chance).

Or.....lose to the guy you can't stand and pocket 5 million.

Readers, Ricky Hatton will never step in a ring with Junior Witter IMO as it's a massive risk for a comparatively much smaller purse than is available elsewhere.
RH isn't the kind of boxer to take this type of fight, not while Witter is under 40 IMO, and his camp are definitely not that type of camp either IMO. It's been my experience that they like to have every single advantage possible and then some.

Tszyu and Castillo were in the top 10 and Maussa and Urango were also probably in the top 10.

Stuart, what have we told you about drinking and typing, Lad!!!

Seriously though, Malinaggi and Witter are the only real worthy fighters "Richard" should be looking at.

Junior has already served a mandatory in his previous defence, and Hatton has fought for the Welterweight version, so hopefully Jose Sulaiman will allow Junior to defend the title before another mandatory.

Plus us fans deserve a UK fight before Hatton goes back to the States. I figure the winner fights Malinaggi.

Quote from the below Ring article "He’d still be the world junior welterweight champion either way":

http://www.thering-online.com/ringpages/ringupdate.html

And looky here, who's the Champion at Light Welterweight:

http://www.thering-online.com/ringpages/ratings2.html

Think that settles it. Ricardo Hattonio is the Champion at Light Welter, not Witter.

Thats hardly true, he gave every single advantage away in his last fight. In floyd's home town, at floyds weight, with huge gloves and a huge ring. It sounds like your still bitter about Matthew Hatton riding on his brothers coattails and mouthing off about Francis Jones (i completely agree with you on that by the way) but dont make daft comments like that about Ricky.

Lets get a bit of perspective here, ricky didnt turn into a bad fighter overnight and didnt disgrace himself against the best fighter in the world. I reckon he beats Witter but it'll be a hard fight. he's such a big name now that he simply couldnt take on a B/C level fighter in his comeback and witter seems the best option available right now.

The only time Hatton gets in the ring with Witter is when there are no other options for him IMO.

Its a fight I would love to see. At the moment I think it would be a 50/50 fight. That is why it probably won't happen.

I asked Dominic Ingle years ago if the fight will happen and he said it would eventually, but not until they are both past their best, it's looking like a good call.

This fight does not appeal to me as much as it would have 2/3 years ago. I believe Hatton has become too much of a personality and would only be taking this fight as a last possible opportunity.

Hatton is at the backend of his career and i believe paydays are now his motivation. Although, Witter is a serious test, his anonymity with American broadcasters will be his downfall in securing a meeting with The Hitman.

The Malliniggi is more lucrative, even though us Brit fans would prefer a domestic war.

Agree with this - though I tend to lean towards the latter. Don't quote me on this but I'm sure Hatton has said in the past that he only wants "Big" fights. This statement IMO, means "big money" fights. But even if this is the case, I dont' hold anything against Hatton for it - I mean lets face it, if you're going to get punched in the face for a living and risk your health for the entertainment of others you might as well get paid as much as you can for it. Also, Hatton plans to retire at thirty - and I'm guessing he wont want to work much after he retires so fair enough if he wants a big retirement fund. At the same time, if I was a professional boxer, I would want to dominate my division, be known as a legend who beat every challenger in the division and never ducked a challenge. BUT I'm not so who am I to judge! :TU:

Hatton was on setanta at Arthur - Foster fight, repeated what he said previously about not wanting to give Witter a payday after he was disrespected years ago

He was just interviewed on Setanta and based on his body language and the way he answered the questions on Witter, he still has no intentions of fighting him. More out of spite than avoidance though.

And would those saying they would lose respect for Hatton ever cop on to themselves. The guy could of retired well before the Mayweather fight on the money he's earned.

He took his shot at becoming the P4P #1 and failed but at least he took his shot which many fighters aren't even good enough to get. Hatton can take whatever fights he likes in my opinion and still have my respect and support.

WELL DONE STEVE BUNCE!! :TU: Excellent no nonense questioning regarding Junior Witter, I've wanted to see Ricky answer the 'Junior' question on TV for a long while. Rickys done nothing to change my mind on the situation, not wanting to give Junior the opportunity is a FEEBLE excuse. Surely if he was confident of winning he would want to ram the words down Juniors throat.

I like and admire Ricky, but his stance on the Junior Witter is inexcusable.

That might be what you'd do but it's different strokes for different folks.

Hatton pretty much promised he would never fight Witter a good few years ago and he is sticking by that.

Hatton isn't motivated by hurting people, he's not like that. He takes whatever fight would advance his career and at this stage, the Witter fight would do nothing for him other than give him a belt and a decent live gate in Manchester.

It would be a better fight than the likes of Ree's but Hatton has an intense dislike of Witter and he's smart about it. He knows that fighting and hurting Witter just gives Witter what he wants, his biggest pay day and the high profile of fighting someone like Hatton. Refusing to fight Witter hurts Witter far more than any punch ever could.
