Paydays for the Class of 2007

Any of you all know what kind of signing bonuses, if any, the recent boxers who went pro got?

My guess is that they aren't getting much. It is not like College football or basketball players getting drafted and getting huge signing bonuses. Pro boxing gives very small signing bonuses in comparision.

I have talked to several guys and the theme seems to be after they win 7-10 fights they get a substatial amount. I guess the past few classes have burned people so unless they are highly decorated or had a connection beforehand the money isnt being thrown around anymore.

i was talking to a few fighters that made the trials, i wont say n e names, but the ppl i talked to got over $100,000 for signing bonuses and that was 3 ppl!! and they didnt even make the olympic team!! so my guess is, if u made the trials, u were getting something good!!

I guarantee that it is over time and not all at once. If you think about it the only one who didnt make the team that could generate a payback like that is maybe Danny Jacobs. Alot of guys will tell you what u want to here. Im telling from first a first hand account. I have sat with several promoters/managers and no one wants to take a huge risk anymore.

I agree with Clarence. I don't see any manager or promoter advancing $100,000 all at once on an unknown. Even Olympians are getting that kind of money. Once they have a good record and have shown some good skills as a pro, then they can get a good signing bonus. The delay on the payback isn't that far into the future at that point and the odds are much higher of a good return on investment.

Its not hype...He is good...Hell be a better pro than both of those guys hands down and he also beat both of those guys several times.

Porter is going to be a very exciting pro. He can bang when necessary. Danny would not want to go up against Porter in the pro ranks. The pressure, strength, body shots and conditioning are going to be hard for a lot of junior middleweights/middleweights to deal with. I can see people talking about him in a few years like they do Andre Berto right now.

You got to be joking me. He lost to Porter one time by 10 points, you do know he beat him the 5 other times they fought just as badly if not by a bigger margin. He also beat Estrada 2 or 3 times. There was a reason he won so many national titles, because hes an insanley gifted fighter. I dont see what you are basing your statement on.

Most of the teenagers should try to stick around for another shot at the Olympics. If they were 19 this August, they would be 24 for the 2012 Olympics. Definitely not too old to box in the Olympics or start a pro career.
