I hope it does not end his Olympic dreams. Sadam seems like a good kid and has always been nice when I've seen him, except in the ring. Lets keep our fingers crossed for him.

It just seems that many of the stimulants found in some cold medicines really should not be on the list. I doubt that they would give you much if any boost. They are in the medicine because it helps people get well when sick. Have ever seen how long the list of banned drugs is? There are hundreds of drugs listed. It's ridiculous. If an athlete is sick and needs to take medicine, there has to be a way for them to do it and not get in trouble.

Before the Trials one of kids that made the team came to stay and train with us. He had what looked like hives on his arm and was very concerned about it. I took him to the Dr. and they didn't believe it to be anything serious, but he perscibed something for him. We told him right in the office that there was a potential problem with any drugs. We gave him the USADA website and he did the research to make sure the persribtion was OK. which it was. After contacting USADA, the boxer still opted to not take any of the pills. The same precaution should be taught and it should be made clear that NO medicine should be taken untill cleared with the appointed Staff member. Then no matter what the problem, there would be a record of checking on it. We detailed out contact with USAD and kept it untill there was no need for it.

Some athletes (we are not talking just boxers here) will find a way to abuse certain over the counter medications that will increase their energy level, help them lose weight, or give them some other perceived advantage.

Hal - you were being smart about the prescription drugs. Unfortunately, not everyone in our sport is so careful.

Man Dennis< could imagine if Mike Hunter was Dq'd because of a stupid move on my part. I don't know how I would handle that.

Yeah, I was always very careful with Jordan too. I have gotten him to the point where he won't take anything and I have to tell him that it is OK to take certain over the counter meds when he is sick. He usually will still refuse.
