Will Calzaghe actually keep his 12st titles after all?

Hi everyone,

I have been saying since his win over Kessler that he should stay at 12st for 2 more fights, and the recent RJJ statement made me wonder if he may well do it after all. RJJ said he wants to drop back down to 12st to face Calzaghe for the titles - but he isn't interested if Calzaghe vacates the belts.

So surely with Hopkins' last fight having been at 170 pounds, and with tonight's Tito-Jones fight at 170lbs, it looks likely for Calzaghe-Hopkins to be at 12st and the winner faces off against tonight's winner?

I doubt it really will all fall into place, but that is what I am hoping for.

It makes sense.

I think Hopkins might want to take him out of his comfort zone though and up to 175. Not much weight difference but something else for Calzaghe to worry about aswell as fighting in Vegas.

Calzaghe wouldn't worry about 175 lbs. He'd be happier there as he wouldn't have to drain himself so much.

I honestly can't see the point in staying at 175. No disrespect, but there isn't a lot of quality left in the division.

Dawson isn't quite there yet, Green isn't great, Erdei is protected and shit, Tarver ain't what he was (if he ever was) and Woods is good, but not a legacy defining name.

On the other hand, Joe has repeatedly said he wants to be a 2 weight world champion, and he ain't gonna do that by beating Bernard is he?!

Personally I'd prefer to see him fight Taylor (if he beats Pavlik) or Froch. RJJ won't improve his legacy as every Yank will say Roy was shot.

No way should Tito or RJJ go near Calzaghe.

Tito even more because he would be at a size disadvantage and would seriously get hurt. Luckily for Tito RJJ Is cautious after what happened to McClellan I read.

Erm, methinks he vacates 168. Put it this way, he should beat Hopkins. & if he does, why fight RJJ at 168 lbs, when they'll both have to weaken themselves. Calzaghe beats Hopkins, sets himself up as The Man at 175 (sort of), and can surely defend vs Jones at light heavyweight.

stranger things have happened. I recall Kessler-Lacy and Kessler-Taylor were close to happening with Joe at risk of getting left out at 1 point.

Hopefully HBO won't give Hopkins-Jones II the go-ahead, given that the 1st fight was appalling and that they're unlkely to provide thrills. Sadly the corporate nobs seem to think it's ok to just stick any name vs any name, sod the quality matchmaking.

Just heared Warren on the Radio saying he had no interest in Calzaghe fighting Jones cos he doesn't think he should be in the ring cos he'll injure himself enough respect for that oppinion. He said next he'd like him to fight the Taylor Pavlik winner which I think would be more likly at 168 thus if he can Joe will probably keep at least one of his belts when he moves it up and take that back down with him.

Isn't Froch fighting Inkin for the WBC belt and Calzaghe v Hopkins definite at light-heavy, with the winner fighting Jones..?

Froch Inkin is a elimination for a title shot, Warren has said he's not interested in Roy Jones cos he thinks shot fighters are bad for the sport, as I said earlier I realy respect him for taking such a position (and me respecting Warren hardly ever happens).
