wow it looks like Cuba is struggling in most weight classes... I think Alfonso is going to surpise a lot of people and win in Beijing

Only one gold for Cuba. Emilo Correa was the only cuban to win gold although they claim Yordenis Ugas shouldn't have lost. Bulgarians won four gold medals.

whaaaaaat... This is an extremely young Cuban team, a team with nobody returning from the 2004 Games. I think they'll be fine with a little more expirence. I am shocked though that Pulev beat Alfonso by such a margin.

Do u know the result at 91 with Osmay??

I think that is one of the reasons they did not box in the worlds in Chicago. The world would of seen how not so great they are and allowed them to keep that aura about them. They would have gotten spanked in Chicago so they used the threat of defection as the reason not to participate knowing they could get most if not all through the quailifiers but just like the Patriots....anybody is beatable.

Remember, it was in Bulgaria :D

Osmay Acosta lost surprisingly to Stephen Simmons (SCO) who himself was stopped at the Worlds.
Acosta was the Cuban boxer of the year in 2007 being the only one to finish the yar unbeaten. However with this loss I don't expect that much of him in Beijing. He already has lost to Chakhiyev who looks way to strong for him.

This is another example of the home-ring advantage that always seems to happen. Bulgarians win 4 golds with the Russians, the Cubans, the 'stans, the Brits, and many others present. That is very surprising. I doubt it would have happened if the bouts were held in another country.
