Ricky Hatton Applies For Promoters License
Ricky Hatton Applies For Promoters License
Light Welterweight Champion Ricky “Hitman” Hatton has applied for a promoters license to the Britain Boxing Board of Control. Hatton has not publicly discussed any promotional dates or fighters who will battle under his banner but rest assure, England’s favorite fighter will have significant influence on boxing in the UK and throughout the world. Coming off a December loss to Floyd Mayweather, Hatton has yet to name a comeback opponent but it appears the “Hitman” will enter the ring on May 24th, most likely in Manchester.
I agree that this guy should concentrate more on his fighting. He's yet to beat a world-class fighter in his prime... time will tell. I've seen other sides to Hatton in the last six months or so and basically just do not like this guy anymore. I see him as big-headed and pig-headed in a delusional, fake way, and I see malice inside him.
Or put more simply- he isn't quite as good as we all used to think he was.STP wrote:I agree that this guy should concentrate more on his fighting. since when has he done that lately. :xsteve689 wrote:That may be so but it seems obvious he is devoting too much time to out of the ring activities and only turning up 6 weeks before a fight to burn off the excess and get into shape. Shame to see the "man of the people" becoming so money motivated.
14 weeks prep for mayweather.
so he's gone for a promoter's licence.
good luck to him.
let's hope he unseats allegedly off the top of british boxing one day.

his next fight will be on HBO.

hatton is a big name though.
i'm sure goldenboy are backing the project as well.
could have some legs this one.
I think GBP might use him to tap British talent ala Barrera for Mexico.
Or maybe just not quite as good as we wanted him to be.whicker wrote:Or put more simply- he isn't quite as good as we all used to think he was.STP wrote:I agree that this guy should concentrate more on his fighting. I think if Hatton was guilty of anything, it was buying into his own hype.
But I don't think he's this evil, two-faced hypocrite that some are now making him out to be, just a boxer who pushed his considerable luck further than it would carry him.

i thought he gave floyd a decent argument.
mayweather upped it and hatton couldn't respond.
credit to floyd.
he'll go down as one of the best ever anyway.
hatton will be back.
I don't think he's a busted flush but he could be (competetively) a broken man.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he gets beat in one fight and he's a busted flush.tony3 wrote:Or maybe just not quite as good as we wanted him to be.whicker wrote: Or put more simply- he isn't quite as good as we all used to think he was.

Hatton had genuine aspirations on becoming the p4p no1 before December.
Mayweather took those dreams, screwed them up and threw them in the wastepaper basket.
There's no shame at all in being beaten by Mayweather and Hatton still remains a very good fighter but I just think the manner in which he was defeated could have dealt a psycological blow beyond repair.
We shall see.

Seems to me that Ricky has lost one fight & now people are quick to shoot his achievements & credentials down in flames, dismissing him as not being as good a fighger as first thought.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he gets beat in one fight and he's a busted flush.tony3 wrote:Or maybe just not quite as good as we wanted him to be.whicker wrote: Or put more simply- he isn't quite as good as we all used to think he was.

Ricky lost to the best boxer P4P in the world in Floyd. I agree that will go down as an all-time great. As you say, Floyd stepped on the gas & that's when the fight was over. Mayweather's shots were precise, pin-point & fast. Once Ricky had not answer, it was a case of when, rather than if, Floyd would get him out of there, & that's no disrespect to Ricky.
Why is it whenever one of our own, be it sport stars, or whatever profession they may be in, we always knock them down even further once they haven't lived up to expectation?
I for one hope Ricky will be back. He's been a good guy for boxing & is humble. What you see is what you get with Ricky, no fake shit!

I never thought he was THAT good. He is a decent fighter - but he is no way elite and he won't fight much longer.Rocky Balboa wrote:Seems to me that Ricky has lost one fight & now people are quick to shoot his achievements & credentials down in flames, dismissing him as not being as good a fighger as first thought.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he gets beat in one fight and he's a busted flush.tony3 wrote: Or maybe just not quite as good as we wanted him to be.

I think what counts against Hatton is the fact that unlike Judah and Corley, he failed to finish the fight. Prior to the fight, people were saying Mayweather had no snap at 147, and then he goes and thumps Hatton bandy.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he gets beat in one fight and he's a busted flush.tony3 wrote:Or maybe just not quite as good as we wanted him to be.whicker wrote: Or put more simply- he isn't quite as good as we all used to think he was.

Hatton did make him work hard, but then Ricky just fell to pieces, lost his rag and got knocked out.
Rightly or wrongly, it reflects badly on Hatton's status as an elite fighter.
One of the best ever? Best ever what?
At the moment, Hatton's career is similar to McGuigans, a few good defences against ordinary opposition. If he beats another world class fighter who isn't at the end of their careers, then he elevates himself, but it's what he does from here on end which will decide his legacy.
It shouldn't be surprising in this country but it's amazing to me how much people have put the boot into Hatton since he lost.
And why does looking to earn money make him maliciously motivated by money? Why does earning money have to always be a negative thing? He's making the most of the opportunities coming his way - who wouldn't?

Largely, I think, due to the way he has acted since the fight, with regards to a clash with Witter.Rocky Balboa wrote:

No-one is angry with him just for losing, its all down to this attitude now that he does "want to give Witter a payday."
Its this kind of behaviour- apparantly backing away from a potential classic- that is knocking him down in peoples expectations.
