Is this man still living?

Post by Joe Richmond »

Does anyone know if the great slugger of the '40s and '50s, Harry "Kid" Matthews is still living? Last I knew, he was staying in Seattle or Everett, Washington area. 8)

Within the last hour I picked up the current (July) issue of Ring Magazine and it reports that Harry Kid Matthews died in February of this year at the age of 80. I remembered this question because I was interested too when I first read it. I also remember the great impression he made on TV when he fought the rough Irish Bob Murphy and put on such a wonderful exhibition of boxing and punching.

They came out with the new Ring? I was just at the store yesterday and it wasn't there... I'll drop by there again today on my way home.
