Before I start, I will keep the names in this little story anonymous.
So I'm a big fan of a certain boxer who will be fighting in his biggest fight in a few weeks time and a few mates along with myself have been planning to attend the bout. So as a travel agent, I've planned and booked the flights and hotel for all 11 of us; different dates, times, hotels etc... in other words, it's been quite hard work, all in order for us to have a great few days in a foreign country (oops, a clue!) and catch the fight. Two of us went to school with another boxer who trains with the main event boxer and were promised tickets, not a problem. So we left the tickets on the internet in order for us to get them this way and promised the boxer we knew from school a few quid his way for sorting them out.
So today, my mate (James) went down to their gym to pay the cash and pick up the tickets. When he walked in, the main event boxer walked over and this was the dialogue:
Boxer: What have you got for me?
James: £2200 for 11 tickets, cheers for sorting this out. [i.e. £200 per ticket]
Boxer: Here you go
James: Do you want to count the money?
Boxer: I trust you
James opens up the envelope to see that there was indeed 11 tickets, but with the face value of $250. Todays exchange rate is 1.93 US$ to the GB£.
James: These are $250 tickets
Boxer: Yes, for my last few fights, people have been making money by selling them on the internet so I'm marking them up myself so I make some of it.
At this point, said main event boxer walks away and back to his training.
There was no 'Thanks for coming out to support me' or 'Look, I'm sorry that you didn't buy these cheaper on the internet when you had the chance - I am making about £70 per ticket compared to the face value, but times are hard for me at the moment' - nothing. James basically felt like saying "shove the tickets up your arse" but he's about 5'7" in a gym full of pretty tough characters in the middle of nowhere.
First the ballot debacle now this, is everyone at it?

Its called the 'Hatton Tax'Boxer: Yes, for my last few fights, people have been making money by selling them on the internet so I'm marking them up myself so I make some of it.
I just find it a bit fishy that he doesn't mention his name, but then gives virtually every clue available.
I'm not even sure if Team Calzaghe have much of an allocation, as the Team Hatton 3,900 was actually part of their contract with GBP, or GBPs with MGM Mirage (which, escapes me).
I'm probably too old and synical! 8)
