No explanation for splitting of thread?

Post by Expug »

There were hundreds of posts, thousands of views and contributions by people such as Dagosd2000 , Kikibalt and Rick Farris people who have been involved with West Coast Boxing from the inside for generations.
Without explanation the thread has been split and at the very least slowed down.
Whats going on?

I'll explain. I was sent an e-mail by someone who apparently was quite involved in this thread who said that it was a great thread that had: "taken the forum by storm. A bunch of us have been all over it and in the span of about a week it's up to 16 pages. The problem is we don't want to rule anyone out who might like to join in and the title of it is very misleading. We just started posting under the 'Ernie Lopez-lost decade' thread and it actually has little to do with Ernie at this point, only a few posts. Anyways, as we have been hitting vintage West Coast, Midwest and East Coast subjects of the past, can you change the name of the current thread from the Ernie Lopez to maybe something like 'Classic Boxing'? This way we don't lose what has been written before and we open the door for more posters on this tremendous subject."

This message was forwarded to me by another Editor. So, I tried to do the right thing and try my hand at this, having never locked, moved or renamed a thread in my many years of being a "Boxers of the Past" moderator. (And, from what I saw, the images and most of the posts seemed to concern California boxing in particular, so I decided upon an "American West Coast" title.) From the tools I could see as a moderator, I was unable to simply re-name the thread, but would be required to split it first. So, again, hoping I was doing the right thing, I split it at an early point where it appeared appropriate. But, once done, it could not be undone. (I even tried an independent "test" thread afterward, to see if I could simply rename the test thread, and still could not see how that could be done without splitting it.)

I apologize if this "messed it up," although no single post was deleted. Perhaps the Almighty Administrator has the power to reunite them and rename the entire thread.

An exercise in stupidity.

This was the best thread I have seen on any boxing site.

It actually had people posting on it who had a background in boxing.

PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS.

Best thread for years ruined by an over zealous moderator...

Just put it back as it was, thanks.

Guys, there is nothing ruined and there is nothing lost. All material and subject matter is still there. I left a message early this morning on the Ernie Lopez thread that it was my doing and no one else's. I felt maybe a re-titling of the thread to 'classic boxing' might be in order since the thread grew to encompass west coast, midwest and Philly subjects and that it really had little to do with the great welterweight contender Ernie Lopez anymore and others might shy away if they believed that was solely the subject matter. The editors at boxrec simply could not re-title it and so split it. It's not what I wanted but they did the best they could do. Again, nothing is ruined, nothing is lost, all the material is there. Now let's click on classic boxing (actually I believe he called it west coast classic boxing) and talk, west coast, east coast, european classic boxing. And if you want to talk about Ernie Lopez, I'm there, dude, because all is welcome.

Cut Ric some slack, he did this with good intentions, and not with malice. I was the one who forwarded the e-mail to Ric from Dan Hanley, requesting the name change on the thread, since I couldn't do it myself since I am not an admin on this forum.

Closure

Closure:
Ric wrote:I think I managed to re-create somewhat the original first page of this thread over on the first page of the newer "Classic American West Coast Boxing" thread. Now I hope we can all smile at this innocent mishap and move on. (I've learned a valuable lesson, that's for sure. And I've also learned how to change a thread title, thanks to BoxBuzz, should that ever become necessary. Watch out! :P )
