according to the Daily Mirror today this fight is being lined up as an WBC eliminator.

What do you think the chances of Danny winning are?

WBC Eliminator? To fight who? Gomez, the winner of the last eliminator? Peter the intrim champ? Maskaev the normal champ? Klitschko the super champ of whatever they call him?

They have enough sorting out to do before the announce anymore eliminators, at least wait till Peter v Maskaev has happened.

As for Williams v Toney, depends on what shape they come in at and how shot they are. Not really great for the future of the division and neither deserves it. But of course it would be great for Danny to get another title shot. Not that I can see it happening mind you

I could quite easily believe this, as the WBC are renowned for trying to make as much money from eliminators, champion emeretius, interim champs and super champs.

For instance, Castillo is fighting for the #1 position he already obtained in October.

Jose Sulaiman is the Don King of boxing organisations! And from what I've heard his Son ain't much better, either!

Winnable fight for Danny provided he keeps his weight low and his work rate up. Toney was shocking in his last fight.

As Lenny says, Danny has landed on his feet if he's getting this, but otherwise looking at it this is farcical.

Maskaev/Peter still has to happen.
Vitali has first shot at the winner.
Then there's JCG (who already beat McCall in one eliminator) versus Virchis, which isn't going to happen until September.

Add to this the fact neither is even ranked by the WBC

The Mirror has surely got the wrong end of the stick. I could buy that it's happening as a non/title, but other than that...

Seriously, Danny is good. When he's not too big, he's good. Nice, fast jab and natural punches.

But James Toney, even carrying 50lbs of fat and being 45 years old, is a totally different league...

You do know Toney won a SD almost a year ago against fringe journeyman Batchelder (25-4), right?

I think Danny stands a chance here, provided he doesn't hit the Kiplings.

I'd have RJJ ahead of him (not Roy's problem if James hit the pies beforehand, don't fight in the fecking division if you can't make weight). Toney is the best of the 90s behind RJJ.

I believe Ben Cohen also scored the fight to Batchelder too Terry. That said, if it was in the UK, I'd go just to say I've seen Toney fight.

Toney did very little and Batchelder also but he forced it a bit more. I got my copy from a guy who snuck a camcorder hidden in a tampon box into the venue.

Class copy as well.

I hope he emptied it first.

If they held it over here, with Toney's mouth they could actually sell a few tickets I would have thought.

If Danny comes in at 20 stonish, then James Toney may be able to outwork him.....which is not something you hear very often

I saw him fight Sanderline and Sosa when I was living in San Fran.

His body to head and head to body combos looked hot,but he was loading up too much and not rolling his shoulders as much as he did against Nunn. They were close,competitive fights with Sanderline and Sosa. Good fights. Good stuff.

Toney should never have gone up to heavyweight. His legs looked old in the Jirov fight - his last great performance - and carrying an extra 30-40-lbs was no good for him.

There's something depressing about Toney. Every time he looked on the verge of doing something great he squandered it. There's no way back now.

Toney sounded punch drunk and deluded after Peter II.

It won't end well unfortunately. It would be such a shame for Toney to get knocked out.

I get a lot of happiness from his career. There is something about frustrating genius that draws you in. You can always fill in the gaps based on what could have been.

Best fighter in my teenage years and still the best now, even though he isn't.

definitely, brilliance in fragments, 91-92, 93-94, 02-03 were his three excellent spurts

I cannot believe this fight will happen.....Toney is deluded about his worth and will want a big payday; that which cannot be provided....
