Help find Gavin Rees' marbles!

Post by Rocky Balboa »

http://www.fightnews.com/

quote]Gavin Rees says he'll give Amir Khan a pasting - after he's dealt with Andreas Kotelnik in Cardiff on Saturday night. Rees defends his WBA light-welterweight crown at the CIA against his dangerous mandatory challenger. But he believes he will win - and then go on to wreck the career of Khan later this year. "Kotelnik is a good fighter, and I know I'll have my work cut out to beat him," said undefeated Rees, who won the belt against Souleymane M'Baye last summer. "But I'm in the shape of my life and ready to go 12 hard rounds against anyone. I don't believe Kotelink can beat me."

The 27-year-old Welshman added that he also fancies a shot at Commonwealth lightweight champion Khan. "He's been opening his gob a lot recently, but if he does that when he's near me I'll stick my fist straight in it," said Rees at a public work out today. "Khan reckons he's Mr Big, but put him in the ring with me and I'll give him a right good pasting. I really believe I'll smash him to pieces. After I've sent Kotelnik packing I'll be straight on the phone to our promoter allegedly begging him to get the Khan fight done, because I'll knock him out in six rounds."
[/quote]

Looks like Rees & Enzo Calzaghe are both searching for their marbles! :D

Khan would be way too fast & accurate for Rees. Khan would out-class Rees, no problem, in my view.

My brother does a great impression of Rees throwing combinations & it has me in stitches.

so rather than talking up unification fights with the other junior welter champs or meeting the best contenders the division has to offer, rees is talking up a fight with a rookie from the division below. doesnt say much for his aspirations as champion does it?

Lest we forget Gavin is really a lightweight and Khan really a light-welter.

The devil is in the detail.

I think other people see things in Khan that I don't. Or maybe I'm just a disestablishmentarian. (Oh yes, feel the length on that one Dooley;-) and crave for the golden goose to get squeezed to hard. oh heck I'm slipping to Mersonisms here.

Slate Gavin all you want, he still has a 147 genuine world title, something your brother doesnt! Whilst Kontelink starts big favourite I quietly fancy Rees this weekend... good luck to the lad!

Rees will beat Kotelnik, find It strange that most of you have seen how terrible he was against Witter and In the 2nd M'Baye fight yet he's easily favoured.

Gav ain't lazy like M'Baye was.

He is chasing the money. What is wrong with that?

and fighting the top 140pounders in the world wouldnt provide it? being a champion ( and gavin is, legit ) involves fighting the best out there. it doesnt involve chasing a fight with a 16 bout novice who hasnt yet risen above domestic level

Khan is one of the World's top prospects around that weight division. Rees defending his belt against Khan would be a very good defence of his title, so I don't believe there is anything wrong with Rees calling him out.

But Khan has fought much better opposition than Rees had when he got his shot. Nothing wrong with calling out Khan, Khan has said he might move up win Rees' belt and then move back down. Surely there is nothing wrong with Rees responding?

Anyway still feel the little fat bloke will lose this weekend

You can understand why he is doing it though? He is a world champion, but gets nothing like the publicity of Khan.

Who do you want him to call out? Junior Witter? He won't get any headlines from that!

Looking at the padwork Kotelnik and his trainer are doing and dunno why the trainer Is making him punch up high when Gav's 5ft 3.

Maybe they read Gavin's recent outburst in regards to Khan and feel that he's getting a little big headed?

the irony of all this is Rees will probably beat kotelnik, then make witter do the chicken dance, bounce hattons head off a ringpost, close malignaggis mouth permanently and retire as the undefeated, undisputed light welterweight champion of the world

could you imagine that :o

I wouldn't mind seeing Kahn go in against Rees. Depending how their fights go over the next fortnight it might be Kahn's best chance to become a world champion before the end of July, or whenever he'd need to do it to be Britain's youngest world boxing champion.

I actually think Rees could cause Khan problems unless Khan is a much bigger hitter than I credit him with.

Khan would obliterate Rees. If anything, Rees is made for Khan. Hands are way too fast and Khan would be teeing off on Rees all night. GR's defence isn't tight enough to fend off what Khan will throw at him and I don't think Rees has the firepower to expose any vulnerabilities Khan may have. I also get the impression Khan's more effective punching down than he is punching high and straight.

We know Khan can do 12 rounds at a decent pace if he has to. Personally, I think he'd stop Rees on his feet within six.

Kotelnik is favorite at the bookies, for anyone who thinks Rees wins this one. I reckon the Welshman is underrated, and with home adv can take this on points. Think he'd probably wack out Khan as well - he hits the target and surely hits harder than Willie boy Limmond?

Rees maybe worth a punt, I'd only make Kotelnik a marginal favourite here.

Kotelnik will be win, he will blast rees out without endangering 7+rounds.

Khan will have to find his WBC/IBF/WBO/WBA at lightweight. Wanky will not be pleased.

I've just bet £10 on Rees winning (6/4).
