Jones vs Doherty Thoughts

Post by Phenomenal-Nutrition »

What do we think of this pair? You couldn't hope for more of an all action undercard fight and very enjoyable it was. Doherty looked a different class in the early going doing his best Floyd Mayweather impression. Smith gave him a battering in the last few but Doherty kept throwing but his technique and defense let him down and its clear he reliant on having the energy to slip and lean out the way of punches instead of being able to parry/block when the going gets tough

What about the futures for both fighters? Doherty looks very talented, athletic but a bit raw with but for all his flashyness makes very basic errors. I didnt see Doherty-Mcintyre how did that 1 go? Doherty imo if he shed his bodyfat should be fighting down at 135 or lower, hes carrying quite a bit of weight

Also what was the talk from Bunce about racist fans (allegedly Smith had some abusive/racist fans), from my TV perspective I couldnt hear a thing, does anyone know what was going on?

doherty won 8 out of the 10 rounds for me, that said jones wasn't far behind in many of them, cracking fight though.

Doherty did look fleshy he needs some work in the gym before he can think of taking of mcintyre.

The racist thing probably stems from the fact that doherty is from an irish travelling background (hence his accent for a welshman).

Think I had Jones winning the last 3 but otherwise agree. Thoguht it was funny when they said to Jones 'they weren't sure you could go 10, you proved you could easyily' 'well I only fought for 3 rounds'

For me Tony Doherty is a class act who isn't fit enough! He's only just landed in the Calzaghe gym so hadn't really had the time for the fitness ethos of the gym to kick in so hopefully for the next fight he'll be sharper. He ran out of steam but has so much ability its frightening.. at the moment he's just fighting on talent and not hard work..

He needs to be more savvy with nutrition and keep his weight down but has a great future.

Jones was really tough and did really well and I think he's got a good future too...

Very entertaining fight. Agree about Doherty's fitness. If he was in tip-top shape, he could probably fight at 140.
