Lewis-Mercer

Post by ludovic »

does anyone knows where to find a vid of Lewis-Mercer? I saw some extracts of the fight on some youtube-vid, but i could not find the whole fight.

from the high-lights on youtube, is seems a very exciting fight, with lewis fighting a lot inside instead of using his jab. he also didn't use the jab and hold tacticts like he sometimes did, but got in there for a real fight.
mercer, at the moment of the fight a very dangerous fighter, really tested lewis his chin. i think this proofs that lewis wasn't a glass-jaw fighter.

thx

It's been on ESPN Classic a lot, been posted on Youtube several times, if those fail, very easily available from a tape trader.

Decent fight, far from one of the "best fights ever"

I think Mercer won it by a point or two. He clearly won the 9th round, don't know what Lederman was smoking. If Mercer had come into the fight in shape he probably would have knocked Lewis out.

I think Mercer won that fight too. He was sutch a waste of talent.

I think the fight showed us a few good things about lewis too it showed he could take a punch.

It showed Lewis could hang in a real tough fight but Mercer won the fight fair & square IMO and Lewis just couldn't produce the good in the last 2 rds cos he was so knackered.

Basically Lewis for the first time his career unloaded a few sledge hammers in the first rd and Mercer swallowed em up and everytime responded immediately with fierce punches.

That must of been fookin scary for LL!! Mercer was really up for that fight and finally revealed his full potential, unfortunately he wasn't a hot fighter coming in and didn't have HBO behind him like Lewis did, who badly needed an answer for Showtimes Mike Tyson.

I had Lennox by a point in a fantastic fight.

I know that I am in the minority group, but I have Lewis winning by a landslide. Something like 8-1-1.
As I see it Mercer is landing som real bombs, but they are way to few to make an impression on my scorecard.

Only scored it the once, but I had it 6-3-1, 97-94 Lewis, from memory. Not as close as some may have you believe, I thought.

I scored this one awhile ago. I think I scored it as a draw or Lewis by a point.

Good fight. Both guys showed alot of heart, Lewis showed vunerabilities that he saw himself and 'ironed' out.

One of the many under rated fights of the 90s.
