Romanov vs Thaxton
Sorry if this has already been posted but whats everyone's thoughts on this weekends european title lightweight clash? Personally I think Romanov will do a number on Thaxton - Thaxton really struggled against Stewart and was stunned a bit by a right hand I thought. Romanov on the otherhand has looked class everytime Ive seen him vs Vanzie, Murray,Klassen and even in losing vs Earl. But one thing that makes me doubt him is that an ancient Stefano Zoff took Romanov the distanve and made it fairly tight on the cards according to boxrec...anyone see this fight?

Its clearly a very good fight - one in which I suspect Thaxton is desperate to win - why - Amir Khan.
If Thaxton wins which I hope he does - watch the after fight interviews.
Another problem - I think Khan's contract runs out at ITV if it hasn't already very soon - Thaxton is now an ITV fighter - If Khan goes to Setanta with W arren - and it is rumoured can't remember where that contract is up for renewal soon too!!! - then lets face it regardless of whether the fighters do want to meet - Hennessy will have to eat humble pie and allow Thaxton to fight on a W arren show.
Now theres a question - how many Hennessy fighters have appeared on W arren shows - there have been a couple but not too many!!!

Thaxton is a Hennessy fighter - I suspect Hennessy if he hasn't already secured a contract is trying to do so with ITV - especially if Froch and Witter win their next fights.sweetscience wrote:thaxton an ITV fighter ???????
why would ITV give hennessy a contract over FW other than they are cheap
i cant image ITV throwing money thaxtons way there are 30+ better fighters than him in te UK
This has nothing to do with Thaxton and his standing - he will box wherever his promoter has the TV contract with.
In addition - it is also not a matter of Hennessy getting a contract over W arren - Hennessy exploited a vacancy at ITV due to w arren going to Setanta.

Spud, just wondering if you could write in continuous prose as opposed to this staccato use of the dash which seems to break up all your meaning.Spud wrote:Its clearly a very good fight - one in which I suspect Thaxton is desperate to win - why - Amir Khan.

Are you saying that Hennessy has got a contract with ITV which extends beyond the May 10 show?

But aren't ITV more stingy about giving out dates than Sky? Sky leave just about every Friday free for fights.
Hennessy has had bad luck with his fighters - who have suffered injury, opponents pulling out - and if they are headline fighters then whole shows have to be moved...in such a case as this does the show still hve a TV date? OK with a sensational card like Froch-Inkin/Murray-Fewkes & now Witter-Bradley, but what of a card with say only 1 good fight on it?
Just a thought...Interesting, if we could see more Sat shows with continued ITV involvement...
